"This has Been a Problem Heat Pump"
This has been a problem heat pump since General Air Conditioning in Palm Desert, California put it in. We originally ordered a Maytag and the company baited and switched us to a Goodwin. In the 18 months we have had the "lemon", we have complained regularly about many things. Seems every time they come on a service visit, they want to sell us something. Now the damn thing won't keep the house under 80 Degrees. Could it be the refrigerant? Or as they suggested, it need a new condenser they call a beer can for a major $350 cost. Originally they said that beer can was to help the unit start better. We spent $9,000 on the "lemon" and even after a manufacturer rep came out, it worked only for several months. Their "limited" warranty is lousy. Even with a car you get 3 years or 36,000 miles. We did not get even 36 months without major trouble. It's been 18 months of "hell" for us. Besides all of that we had General Air Conditioning put in a $3,500 down draft swamp cooler and they now have the dampers set, so our office is the hottest room in the 1640 sq ft house. I'll never buy anything from General again.

"Won't Buy Another"
Built a custom house in 2004, upgraded everything, neither bldr or contractor told me what quality of units were being installed. Even when I had a conversation with the bldr about wanting a reliable heat pump installed, been constant string of problems since 2006 and now compressor is out. A service tech told me this was a low grade unit possibly refurbished, that means to me that either the bldr or AC contractor was cutting corners and installed cheap equipment. Have to have service every winter and every summer, paid twice for this. AC contractor will not stand behind this equipment or his installation. Typical waco...

"Bad"
We have spent as much on repairs for this piece of junk than it cost us. We have not had any kind of compensation from the company, nor have they returned out calls. This had been going on for five years. We live in Phoenix, Arizona and to not have air conditioning in the summer is a health issue.

"Junk... Just Junk"
As Hal said below, these units are complete junk. Having a brand new unit, my coil developed a hairline crack (and corrosion) due to crappy mounting and overall poor quality when it was 2 years old (you can read many complaints about their crap coils). Goodman refused to honor their "10 year warranty" (or acknowledge there's a design flaw in the mounting). Now two years later - almost to the day that the last one was replaced, it has fallen apart again and lost function. The repair company (that should be named "Crooks") who initially installed the whole new unit and the replacement coil (and charged me) now wants another $600+ to replace it. Really Goodman / Crooks Heating and Cooling? 2 years out of a coil and it's not a "problem"? I don't know how you're staying in business constantly screwing over senior citizens on fixed incomes. It's not bad enough that you have an insane markup on the junk units, but now you want to bend me over once again. Guess what? That's not happening. I'll fight you tooth and nail in court. My advice is to avoid Goodman units (and get a repair company that actually goes to bat for you with warranty claims instead of against you). Spend the extra money and go with a brand that stands behind their products since Goodman does not!

"Bad Reviews"
It is human nature to let everyone know when something has gone wrong, but when something good is done, you hardly ever hear about it. as an electrical & hvac contractor I come across improper installtion 90% of the time. The fact that you are blaming goodman to be a bad product is wrong. The same compressor, fan motor, and circuit boards on a goodman are the same in a trane, carrier, rheem, and etc. And yes there will be some defected ones as all mass produce products have. I have installed a large amount of goodman and amana with very little defects. I am more then sure if the unit fails prematurely, 90% of the time was caused by improper installation. Every aspect has to match for the unit to fully function correctly which include tonage size, return air size, supply duct size, copper line installtion, and the most over looked item is the electrical size of your service.

"Goodman heat punps"
I have been installing hvac units for 10+ years. Goodman units are good, most of these problems sound like they are from poor installations. Ive had a Goodman in my house for 11 years and have not had any of these problems.

"Guess what tore up again."
Have unit that is two years old and has been worked on four or five times due to Freeon leaking. The first time was due to improper installation. The next time the technician blamed it on bad copper line. I gave him the benefit of the doubt. This past summer with 100 degree weather the relay switch went out. Problem fixed again. Now the coil is leaking Freeon and has to be replaced. The heating and cooling owner says the part is under warranty but here is the best part. No one in Tennessee has the part. They found one out of state and guess who gets to pay the shipping on it. Me. The owner told me l could wait six to eight weeks for Goodman to make the coil. This product is a total joke. I would never recommend this product.
