"Heat pump nightmare"
Both my neighbor and I bought this heat-pump and both went down before the warranty even went out. Both incurred high cost repair bills because the cost of freon is so high and the company does not reimburse for their shortcoming. Not a good product. Would not recommend.

"runs great"
18 yr old Goodman heat pump is still running strong, only thing I ever did was replace the blower motor two times in 18 yrs , the outdoor unit has never been touched . I read some other reviews on all brands , and most people that are having all those problems are do to a bad install and service repairmen that do not know how to do there job. Use a well known company ,and any major brand will last

"Goodman DSZC18 Bad Heat Pump"
New system installed 29 July 2011 sw Indiana. Goodman Heat Pump model DSZC18 along with new inside unit. 1st problem was when system was running hard in early January 2012 (less than 6 months). Compressor Rotor Lockup. Called for service could not determine cause and reset heat pump controller. Compressor Rotor lockup two days later. While serviceman was checking system again he touched the 220V leads on the controller board and about got shocked. He called regional distributor and they said "Oh yeah, we have had some problems with bad controller boards." Cold solder joint. Replaced board. Compressor Rotor lockup a few days later, serviceman replaced expansion valve and another part and charged system with coolant. I had to pay a $70 service call total (should have been picked up by Goodman). System ran fine until mid May when weather got unusually hot then Compressor rotor lockup again. Reset unit by cycling circuit breaker. System ran fine for 5 days and locked up again. Cycled circuit breaker system locked up a few days later. Serviceman started trying to diagnose the problem, Goodman wanted to blame power to house/unit. Service man finally put on a generic hard start kit but unit continued to lockup almost daily into and through June. Toward end of June 2012, unit was locking up multiple times a day. Regional service tech for Goodman came to house with serviceman and tried many things and took multiple voltage and current readings (I had also been documenting time of day and outside temp when units were locking up). Goodman wanted to blame grounding for power. I checked all of the ground connections and did not find a problem. They had indicated that they would replace the unit but instead serviceman had to drive out of town to pickup a factory hard start kit (Goodman could not be bothered to UPS it). Unit is running better but has locked up twice since the factory hard start kit was installed. I have let the serviceman and the Goodman tech both know this but have heard nothing back. It will be interesting to see how the unit performs the rest of the summer. The hard start kit is nothing but a band aid on this system. The Goodman tech indicated that he was not seeing this problem with the same model on other installations and he covers a large area of Southern Indiana, parts of Ohio and a good portion of Kentucky. Goodman does not stand behind their equipment. I would never install another Goodman system(or any other brand they are affiliated with) or recommend one. Amana trademark is owned by Maytag Worldwide, but is licensed and distributed by Goodman. Goodman Manufacturing is privately owned and headquartered in Houston, TX (USA). Goodman also owns the Goodman, Janitrol and GmC brands of heating and cooling equipment.

"Very hard working little heat pump"
I was just reading the reviews of the other Goodman heat pump owners and am surprised that they've had such bad luck. We live in Phoenix and had a Beazer home built in 2000. The builder installed Goodman Heat Pumps in all the houses. Other than the shroud noise it has been a fantastic little unit! We now have a Taylor Morrison home and that Beazer house is a rental. After only 3 years this new a/c unit has already gone thru a capasitor. 3 years! Our little Goodman unit has only had two freon fills and one capasitor in twelve years! It just keeps going.. Very impressed with it.. It will eventually go (we have a home warranty) and when it does I will certainly feel like we've had our monies worth. Can't complain about how it has worked in the Arizona heat.

"Warranty stipulations are stupid"
Installed last of 2010. Emptied Freon the first part of 2011 due to copper lines chaffing. Paid repairman $50 for Freon because no parts replaced. Goodman said they would pay $100 for Freon if parts were replaced. Do they not realize and empty system is an empty system no matter how it gets out. Monday it died again. House fan motor this time. None on the East coast. Houston, tx suppose to got some Friday. By the time we get it, and get it installed, the heat pump will have been down 11 or 12 days in some 100+ degree days. Avoid this company

"COMPLETE JUNK"
Goodman is the worst heat pump I have ever owned, and I have owned many through the years. After 2 years of operation the compressor went out, with a cost of $500.00 for labor and the warranty according to Shelby Chilton Heating and Air on its last leg, so $500.00 labor only, Goodman did supply the compressor and some other parts not installed originally or so they(Shelby Chilton) said. Since then I have spent thousands of dollars on numerous heating and air companies trying to find and repair a problem without success, finally one found a leak in the indoor coil unit and advised me they could try and repair it with no guaranty the repair would last through the season, then told me this was a common problem with Goodman because of their manufacturing practices. Since the Government is forcing a change in types of Freon again, Freon has gone through the roof price wise, the last time I had Freon installed, three and a half pounds cost $250.00, roughly $72.00 a pound which makes having Freon installed two to three times a year cost prohibitive. Long story short I could have purchased a new unit for the costs involved in attempted repairs many times over. After checking with numerous companies, I have been told by all of these companies that Goodman has substandard manufacturing practices and they love them for the repairs they generate. I am purchasing a new unit and the Goodman will be put where it belonged when it was new, in the scrap yard! The bottom line here based on my experience with heat pumps in general, no one on earth should ever, ever, ever, ever, ever; purchase a Goodman product unless you just enjoy wasting time and money.

"Condenser Unit Received with Defective Compressor"
I just received a Goodman heat pump system and the compressor is bad. They are replacing the compressor; but, I have to pay to have it installed. The labor cost is $600.00. Pretty poor for a new out of the box system (doa). My suggestion would be try a different brand before Goodman. It certainly can't be any worse. :-)

"Extreme junk"
Unit is now 4 years old. broke during first year, second year, third year and 4th year. Heating bills of over $700, with over 2 inches of ice on the coils in Alabama, not alaska. Finally, stopped using unit and went back to good old 220 volt space heaters. Electric bill dropped 200 bucks going back to original heating. Pops reversing valves, compressor goes bad, expansion valves. The only thing that has worked properly is the fan and the blast coils. If you want to throw your money away, do yourself a favor and purchase a Goodman. No support from company. Seriously, a large class action lawsuit needs to put that company out of business. Unit is very loud, sounding like a sledge hammer when it shuts off in heat cycle.

"Excellent Unit"
We bought this unit in 1995 from Sears. I didn't have the unit serviced yearly. My motto: If isn't broke don't mess with it". This thing ran like a "train" unquote. haha Only thing I can say about this thing excellent unit.
