"Bad Installations"
I am here to give my review of Coleman products as an installing contractor. My company has installed American Standard, Trane, Rheem, Amana, Goodman and Bryant. We have settled with Coleman and install this brand 98% of the time. We like Coleman because of the small amount of warranty call backs, impressive equipment features and distributor support. I am here today because I lost a job due to bad reviews of the Coleman product here on this site. While going over the bad reviews its apparent that 90% of them are due to bad installations (this goes for every major brand.) Since I have been installing all kinds of hvac equipment for years and years I can tell by the descriptions. Aside from the leaky coil claims I feel confident that nearly all other problems are from poor installation practices. My company has installed over 1000 Coleman heat pumps and we have had less warranty compressor replacements and coil leaks than any other brand we've sold in the past. Think of this: Why would Coleman offer an unheard of lifetime compressor warranty if they had to constantly replace them? Also, the same Scroll compressors are used throughout the industry in just about every major manufacturer. We offer a 100% satisfaction guarantee backed by Coleman. This means that if the customer is not satisfied with the new system they get a full refund. In our years installing Coleman we have never once had to file such a claim. You must screen your contractor. Stop obsessing over equipment brand and reviews, you are only wasting your time and ultimately shooting yourself in the foot. Its time wasted that you could have been screening the best contractor to do your job. Make sure they know what they are talking about. Make sure they do a load calculation on your home. Make them provide references and testimonials. Make them show you pictures of their work, even a laymen can see the warning signs of a bad installation in a picture. The reason why some major brands have higher reviews that others is because of contractor screening. Brands like Trane, which is top rated, put their dealers through a rigorous screening process to make sure they are going to represent the brand properly (I.E. do quality work and minimize name tarnish.) So there you have it folks, an un-biased professional opinion. I have nothing to gain from this except the peace of mind that I may have been helpful to someone making a home investment or that I helped to educate someone who had a poor installation. All in all it doesn't really matter which major brand you go with, just make sure you have the right person to do the job. Remember, lower is not better. Don't be enticed by a super low bid, you may pay for it later.

"Lemon"
Expect it to need replacing in four years. I had trouble out of it in the begining that they gave me 1 year extra labor warranty. Each year have had to add freon. Now compressor and switch gone bad going to cost around $500 to fix. that is not including parts. Called company and they gave me the run around. Can't get a straight answer out of company. Will not buy this brand again.

Replacing unit with a Coleman upgrade 08/12. Unit runs cold even with demage. Average daily temperatures from June to September of past six years has been 108*F. Unit was reliable and fairly efficient.

"Good Performance"
Top of the line model hc8b was installed back in December, and it's been running like a champ. I've set the balance point to 25f to minimize turning on my oil furnace / back-up heat. At 18f, the hc8b was cycling off/on with no need for oil backup = good. The hc8b features a Copeland scroll compressor. My contractor retrofitted my furnace blower with an evergreen motor = more efficient than a psc motor. I did have an issue with excessive defrost cycles. I researched this and brought it to the attention of my contractor. He promptly installed an updated defrost control board supplied by Coleman/York. Problem solved. Compared to my old = inefficient HP at equivalent outside temps, my Kwh/day consumption with this new HC8B in place is 46% less. I'm impressed. Two things that seem to make a difference with customer satisfaction: Be picky about choosing your installer/contractor, and provide detailed communication to your contractor if there is a problem. Odds are when you do that, it will be fixed quickly, and minimize contractor call-backs, = wasted time for you and the contractor.

"Coleman Heat Pump Provides Excellent Cooling and Heating"
I have owned my heat pump for approximately six years. I like that it cools the house down quickly and is not overly expensive to heat and cool my home in all months of the year. Another one of the things I enjoy is that it provides an even heat throughout the winter. Another benefit to my heat pump is that it is environmentally friendly and doesn't emit hazardous gases or fumes in order to provide air conditioning or heat to my home. One of the things that I don't like about it is that it is a loud machine. I don't enjoy that when it turns on it creaks and squeals. It is just too loud. I have never had to replace anything on my heat pump as of yet. I would recommend this heat pump to anyone that would like a quality product to heat and cool their home. I cannot say anything bad about this heat pump because it an excellent product that has served my family and I well over the last six years. It has also made me feel that I am helping the environment in some way. I think this is an excellent product that will continue to provide quality heat and air conditioning.

"Quality of my Coleman heat pump"
First of all, let me start off by saying that I live in the Chicagoland/Northwest Indiana area. This area has very harsh winters, and with very harsh winters, you need a very reliable heat pump. For years, I was trying to get a heat pump that didn't always break down, and I was on the brink of giving up until about three years ago, when I bought my Coleman Echelon hc8b. I can easily say that this was one of the best purchases I've ever made; this heat pump is not only extremely reliable, but it makes very little noise, and it actually has a relatively nice appearance. It's a modern looking, metallic, and all around beautiful piece of machinery. There is absolutely nothing I dislike about this heat pump, and I have not had to repair or replace it once. If you are buying a new heat pump, and you need one that is reliable, makes little noise, and is attractive, I strongly encourage you to buy the Coleman Echelon hc8b.

"Coleman makes good heat pumps!"
I have owned this heat pump about 6 months now and I have to say that it has been a very good purchase. I got it last summer because the old Coleman heat pump stopped working and we needed a new one right away. Some things that I like about this Coleman heat pump is the price is pretty good and it seems to be working flawlessly. Some things that I dont like about it is that it is loud and gives off an odor. I have never had to repair it or replace it yet, and I hope that I won't have to in the near future. I think that I would buy the same brand again and I would for sure recommend it to a friend. It is a very good heat pump so I definatly give it a good review and I will continue to buy Coleman products in the future.

"Our Reliable Coleman Heat Pump"
Our family has been relying on the same brand for our heat for the past 20 years – Coleman. They have provided us with an efficient, cost effective heat pump that has satisfied all of our needs to the fullest. We rarely ever have needed repairs for our heating, and when we do, the problems are extremely minor. For example, some minor leaking, a small replacement of pipes, etc. Overall, Coleman’s pumps hold out extremely well if you are looking for longtime usage and functionality. I honestly have no cons or problems with this company or their product. Not only is this product reliable, but the company is as well. If you ever need a replacement part or have trouble with installation, have no fear and call up Coleman. They will gladly give you the help you need as long as you need it! I would whole-heartedly recommend this product to any friends or family who are considering purchasing this product.
