"Look elsewhere"
I've come to the conclusion, too late, that this was a mistake. In less than a month it has had 2 problems. My son also had one installed several months ago and has been waiting for more than a week in 100-plus degree temps for a part. I tried to contact Carrier with a question about something the installer said that sounds either hookey or very troublesome. Their reply was to contact the installer or another installer. Bottom line - no such thing as Carrier Customer Service and no faith in their Infinity system on my part. If I had found this site 6 weeks ago, I wouldn't have a Carrier Infinity System waiting to breakdown. If it goes out again, the installer will be told to tear it out at their expense. Luckily, this state has a lemon law.

"Not Impressed in Middle Tennessee"
This has been my first experience with a heat pump after growing up in Indiana (gas furnace/AC). The house I bought has a Carrier unit and it has not been impressive. Granted this unit has 10+ years of life on it, I have easily spent $800 in hired repair in the last 3 years and more than that on repairs that I have done myself. IC board in condensor was replaced, relays in main unit were replaced, contactor was replaced, defrost sensor was replaced and just this week the reversing valve coil needed repairs as it had come apart. Also, the contacts on the compressor rotted off and I had to replace the contacts and the wiring from the contactor. I understand that stuff breaks over time but this unit as a whole seems very cheaply made and when it comes time for replacement, another Carrier will not be considered as a candidate.

"A Danger!"
I moved into a house in Nov. of 2006. In 2009, the A/C unit quit. The technician came out and found that the cabinet had not been grounded correctly. The age of the unit is between 9 and 11 years according to the last technician that came to my house.

"Noisy!"
First the positives: Had some problems at the beginning. Sears people (who we bought from) didn't really know what to do except swap parts. But after that it has been pretty reliable. It also heats fairly well. The biggest problem is the noise. It sounds like a tank when running, and makes a loud clunk when it shuts off. Our neighbours aren't impressed, and neither are we. Below 5 degrees (C), it becomes extremely loud and we go back to the regular furnace. Air conditioning is OK, but by the end of a hot day something starts to rattle and click outside; the only solution is to turn the machine off and roast for an hour before turning back on. We also have to close lots of vents and shut most of the blinds for the A/C to work properly. A Lennox heat pump down the street is 1/4 the noise. In a neighbourhood of closely packed homes, our Carrier unit simply isn't good enough and we won't buy one again. This was a big mistake.

"don't recommend"
Put a Carrier heat pump, 10 seer. 3 ton in when house was built 11 years ago. Lots of refrig. leakage. Don't recommend Carrier, but it looks like all brands are poor!?!? Now have to replace entire system, including electric furnace for $7,000.
