"Carrier Infinity Heat Pump"
My Carrier Infinity Heat Pump is now 2 years old and has been the best investment I have made in a long time. This system has been trouble free so far and works just perfectly. I would recommend Carrier and our Factory Authorized Dealer did a wonderful installation.

"Carrier Heat Pumps"
I personally have a Infinity/Performance split heat pump in my house, and it keeps this old, leaky house in great comfort. I am a hvac professional, and reading most of these reviews it sounds like installer error! Nothing is bulletproof, but we have not in our 26 years had to replace a 4 year or younger compressor on a unit we've installed. I did see one user post that "your system will only operate as well as it was installed". Which has 100% to do with major refrigerant circuit problems. I would recommend you research your contractors just as much as your system of choice, ask for references, learn a little bit about how the units work, and ask proper questions, for example what is their procedure for evacuation? How do they leak test the system at time of installation? The better business bureau is a great resource for finding a good contractor as well. TXV's gone bad, evaporator coils freezing, are signs of poor installations, the evap coil will only freeze when the refrigerant runs low due to a leak in the dealer installed lines, TXV's gone bad are signs of improper brazing techniques, getting the part too hot and causing an internal malfunction, which will cause a low heat/low cool condition. I am biased to the carrier faith b/c of their quality, ease of installation, quietness, and efficiencies, 90% of the problems i've read about, are more than likely installation issues, and can happen to any brand name. I'm commenting as a consumer, and a trade professional, make sure you research research research the company installing, and the company providing the equipment before you buy!

"Carrier 2 ton units have been outstanding"
I own two 2 ton Carrier heat pumps installed in 1984. Could not ask for a better product. Three minor repairs and both are still performing great. Could not be more please. Find yourself a reputable and honest repairman to service your equipment and you won't have any complaints. I plan to replace the lower unit in 2010 because of the tax credit. It too will be a Carrier.

"good heat pumps"
I'll tell you what I moved in my house back 92. The unit at the time was a Carrier. House built 1986, original unit 22 yrs old finally started acting up. Actually still work before new. Just cut off few times. Now, have a Kenmore installed 7/31/08, almost 2 yrs old. Good so far. It's the freon that makes them last. Can't use r-22 no more. My neighbor still has his Carrier and is still kicking. Carrier is a good unit. Don't think they would last like old units. Went with Kenmore because of money, and because I figure Sears will stand behind their products.

"the older units are better, apparently"
I moved into my home in 1981. It had (and has) a roof mounted Carrier heat pump and has been working great ever since. There have been a couple of small repairs, but nothing expensive. In looking at the feedbacks, it appears that the units 10 years or older work great and the ones newer than 10 years are junk. This is sad because I am saving up for my next heat pump (it will eventually break, right?) and it looks like I can't rely on Carrier's quality. Rats! I tend to be a loyal customer. Good thing, there are these review web sites to save us from making big mistakes.

"Pretty much trouble free"
The Carrier heat pump has been working trouble free and without much maintenance for over 20 years. I live in a condo and the new more efficient equipment will not fit through the door, so I am now looking for alternative brands. But based on our experience, I highly recommend Carrier.

"Infinity"
I love my Carrier Infinity heat pump. Yeah, well I install ac for a living. I have a reversible Bristol compressor and it is so cool to have a 1.5 ton capacity and a three ton in the same unit. I may not love it if I could not work on it. The hard start kits go out every three years (about $351 to repair). Carrier made a really good product prior to the mid to late 1980s. This must have been when they were sold or something. There is a notable decrease in quality of product (as with every other piece of junk manufacturer) It seems the govt regulation has done nothing but diminish the quality and durability of product, whilst at the same time increasing the cost incredibly. As an installer, my only hope is that the people who suffer the most are the ones who vote these lunatics into office. Sorry.

"Carrier Three Piece System"
I bought my home place from my Mom in 2007. Still running today is the Carrier Three Piece System my Uncle Charles installed in 1979! The system has an outside unit, inside air handler, and the compressor is on the inside as well. I do not know why Carrier did not maintain a system design like this other than they last too long! My Uncle installed 12 of these systems in the area in the late 1970's early 1980's and is proud that 8 of them are still in operation today!! Best system ever in my opinion! My uncle is still a Carrier tech, but has become more of a Trane fan as far as new systems go. All in all, it is as my Uncle Charles says...."A system will only operate as well as it is installed! Get a crap installation and you will have nothing but trouble!" Well said I say!

I bought the unit in 1995 and have had no problem with it except for needing to be refilled 2 or 3 times. Works great!

"Old Carrier Has Done Right By Me"
Excellent unit. Reasonable noise level outdoors (estimate about 80dB c weighted) Inside noise level almost imperceptible. Maintains greater- than 18 degree differential between inlet and register air. Good source of heat and cooling for winter/summer in Arizona. Unit original to house. Maintenance: Has required two condenser fan motors and associated capacitors, and one evaporator fan motor. Unit is a one-piece roof design. Never has needed freon in 24 years of operation. Have used electrostatic air filter for approximately 20 years.
