"Junk"
I bought Carrier because I thought they had a good reputation. I wish I would have done more homework. This unit is junk! Three-years old and already burned up two compressors.

"Great System, Low Power Bills!"
My Carrier 38yda036 heat pump has a two stage Bristol compressor with a variable speed blower inside with two separate zones. It's almost 12 years old and I am very pleased with it's performance and need for repair. Only two repairs in 12 years, one was a sensor for the zone panel in about year 3 which was covered by my parts and labor warranty which I purchased through the installer. The other was the outdoor control panel which failed two years out of it's 10 year parts and labor warranty. This was about a $600.00 repair but I think that's not bad at all after running for 12 years. If it was a car I would have had to replace it years ago. With a heating and cooling system it's all about the installing company and how good they are. If they are detail oriented and follow the factory guidelines you have a great chance of not having problems. I will definitely buy another Carrier heat pump system when it's time.

"Heat pump & Furnace"
Had heat pump & furnace installed 11/6/2006. Since I have had rerpairman many times.First month heatbill over $500 double what is was with old unit.Had installer com back and said nothing wrong.Called installer back month later and he was out of business. I the call anothe company. They said it was,nt istalled right. Shipping bolts as well as othe shipping items were not remove on installationThe next year they had to repair mother board.another year and agin Ihad to rreplace mother board. Next year comes along and had to replace comprfessor.thid year or so anther mother board but this time the move it wher the water cannot get to it.Today, they say I need to relace outside sensers.O Course Carrier will do nothing.Beside the cost of purchaseing unit at $10000 I have spent a lot of money for parts and labor.Saveyourself a lot of grief Don,t buy carrier products and make sure you deal with a installer that won,t out of business and leave you with the mess.Don,expect carrier to help they don,t stand by their products.

"Bad compressor"
Bought Carrier Infinity heat pump 3.5 years ago. Two compressors down. Dealer says Carrier knows about the compressor (Bristol)but won't call them defective. Carrier will buy back my outside unit and replace it with one that actually works for $1300. I wish they sold me one that works in the first place.

"Poor Quality - Minimal Warranty Coverage"
I think Carrier quality has dropped to expensive junk status. I have owned 4 homes with Carrier a/C. In three of these we never experienced any problems with the a/C. In 2008 we built our 4th home and specified a 2-stage Carrier heat pump. In Vancouver, British Columbia we haven't had very warm summers lately so the a/c is used about 10 days per year. Our primary heat source is hot-water radiant so the heat pump is usually not used in winter. In June, 2012 the a/c failed to start due to low pressure. Service Technician diagnosed a bad compressor coil. The coil was free but labor and recharge cost me $1900. Some great warranty don't you think for a unit with 20 hours of use?? Well, it gets worse. Today, my boiler failed due to a bad pressure switch. I thought that I would just run the heat pump in heat mode until I could obtain the new switch. Guess what? Upon starting the Carrier hp, I see the dreaded Fault 32 - Low Pressure Switch Open message. Also, the refrigerant sight glass is empty and the compressor unit smells of oil. So, at 6-months after my last coil replacement, do I have yet another bad coil or now something else expensive to replace? I think it is time to replace this Carrier with something I can rely on and that I won't have to take out another mortgage to support repairs. Please take careful note those of you about to invest in a new Carrier!!

"8 Years Old, no trouble"
My carrier heat pump came with my new house. I have had it for 8 years and never made one service call. All I've done is replace air-handler filters, put some bleach in the air-handler drain line once a year, and I wrapped some wires in automotive wire loom inside the condenser unit when I was informed by a friend there was a flaw with the wires laying on top of copper tubing that causes the wire insulation to rub off and short circuit. So, you might say that I am very satisfied. Maybe I should knock on wood, I don't know. I should also state that, since I live in Florida, I never run the system in heat-pump mode, no matter how cold it gets outside, which isn't to cold. I use space heaters if I really need some heat. So this may have something to do with the longevity of the unit. I'd love to get another 6 years out of it.

"Installation"
I see a lot of reviews on carrier systems, and after installing them for 4 years and working on them for 2 1/2 years, I have to say I would prefer them over any other brand. Only one close is trane. We install them all. The equipment isn't the problem most of the time, it is the way it is installed. On newer systems it is imperative to solder all joints while running nitrogen through the system. Without that, and not pulling a good vacuum, it results in expansion valve problems as well as compressor problems prematurely. Of course there are times that any part can go bad on any system. In my professional opinion, no system is made like it was in the 80's and 90'S. Just like anything else, the quality isn't there. I believe it is built to replace. My thoughts are not to blame the maker as much as blaming the installer. If it is a coil issue, it is mostly the manufacturers bad workmanship. Boards could go bad by power surges, dirty power, lightning, etc. Infinity are good systems, but they are also extremely picky when not installed properly, especially when changed out with an existing system. Definitely when you have problems, stay on the dealer as well as the manufacturer or supply house that carry's the product since that is where the dealer will have to purchase the product, things are more likely to be taken care of.

"Carrier Heat Pump"
The unit was installed only 4 years ago. Already the copper coils have corroded and must be replaced. The parts are still under warranty but the work costs $800 dollars. It seems that Carrier has gone with poor quality copper coils produced in China that corrode quickly, as opposed to aluminum that are much longer lasting. There certainly should not be this kind of repair necessary in such a short time!

"AVOID AT ALL COSTS"
First Carrier lasted 24 years, no service contract, no issues. Current Carrier Infinity, 12 service calls in 48 months, I am not aware of any component (other than the duct work) that has not been replaced. Maintain a annual service contract, so out of pocket expense has been limited to about $250/year. But tremendously inconvenient to have technicians taking over your home 4-6 days a year, and never know when the next "call technician" message is going to appear on the thermostat. Spent a week this summer waiting for a coil, had to sleep in my car because the house was over 100 degrees.
