"See between the lines"
It amazes me to read the reviews I see on web-sites like this. And the amount of ignorance I read from the people who are "unsatisfied". I am a residential hvac contractor who has 19 yrs experience, Fl Master Contractors license and was an hvac instructor for 3 years at a technical school. I have worked on every brand of heating/cooling equipment (gas/electric/oil furnaces, gas/oil boilers, heat pumps, air- conditioners, geo-thermal systems, and all of the accessories). What people first fail to realize is that most comparable systems (ie furnace to furnace or heat pump to heat pump) are built with very similar parts. And that the vast majority of these parts are made by other companies. Honeywell, ge, White-Rodgers, Robertshaw, etc. Think of your automobile. How many of the parts in your car are really made by "Ford"? Think of your computer, who makes the chips and other electronic components? The point is that all of the brands of hvac equipment are considerably equal. You could line up 5 different branded heat pumps of the same tonnage and seer rating and they could potentially have all of the same parts, down to the Copeland Scroll compressor. Yes certain brands use better quality components and they all have higher tiered units based on that, seer ratings and warranties. That being said, compare the warranty on an Amana asz16 16 seer heat pump with a Copeland Ultra-tech, 2-stage compressor to a Carrier 16 seer Infinity heat pump with a Copeland Ultra- tech, 2-stage compressor (yes the same exact part!). Carrier offers a 10 year warranty on the compressor. If it fails a new compressor will be provided to rebuild your existing unit. If the same component fails in the Amana unit, they will provide a new heat pump. If your engine were to fail in your car would you rather have a techinician replace the engine or would you rather have a new car?? By the way, Carrier offers a program that in lieu of providing a replacement compressor under warranty you can opt for a replacement heat pump. You will have to pay $1200.00 for that!! Installation not included. Trane (American Standard) sell great systems as do others. The biggest point that I can make here is that none of this matters: warranty, brand, seer, etc unless the system is installed properly!!! Improper installation is by far the biggest problem with all systems. You could have the "best brand" out there, if it is not installed properly it is now the "worst". It is humerous to read all of the "unsatisfied" comments. They all say the same thing. "They kept having to come back in the first year or two and has never saved me any money. The contractor was so fed up with the unit, they stopped returning my calls". Get a clue. It has nothing to do with the brand of your equipment!!!

"Mr."
I had an Amana 18 seer heat pump and high efficient propane furnace installed 07/29/09. I was sold on the warranty and quietness of the unit. a/c worked great, very quit. Fired up the heat pump 10/10/09 for the 1st time and the compressor locked up. I called service and they showed up in 2 hrs. I was told the compressor was junk, and they would replace the whole unit. I'm hoping it was just a fluke....
