"Amana HP"
Purchased asz16 hp in may of 2010. AC worked great. When we switched over to heat, reversing valve was bad. The installer replaced the valve with the same issue. I contacted Amana/Goodman mfg. and made a big stink to the VP of customer relations. A new hp was shipped. When the installer arrived with unit #2, it was sent from the factory broken. Amana along with the installer upgraded me to asz18 hp (unit #3). It arrived the next day. Amana assured me that this model did not have any issues with the reversing valve but it only lasted 1 day before the reversing valve went bad. Unit #4 was sent out. It worked fine for a week then the defrost board failed. It was replaced and unit #4 has been working fine on heat mode. Today, I switched the system over to AC just to check everything out and it will only blow hot air. So I contacted the instaler and was informed that Amana has a problem with the AC now. Good thing my installer has a 1 year satifaction or 100% refund. I would not recommend Amana to anyone.

"our electric is to much"
We haven't even owned our unit a year and it's been trouble ever since. And our electric bill has doubled. We have had someone to come out and look at the electric and check the unit and they told us that it was pulling way too, too much electric! I wouldn't advise anyone to get one. It's been trouble from the beginning. Oh and I noticed it staying on auxilliary heat a lot. I paid upfront for this and I paid a lot of money for a lemon!

"Amana 5 ton heat pump"
Had this unit installed 4/10/2009 to replace an undersized unit. It worked fine until a few months ago when it seemed to get stuck in the defrost mode. Our installer said they "sometimes do that-just turn the unit off for awhile and let it reset". Well, so much for that idea-the unit stopped heating completely a few weeks later. The contractor called the factory and discovered that a batch of redesigned(re:defective) reversing valves were installed and I must have one, so they sent a new valve assy., which was installed a few days later. That lasted exactly 1 week, and the heat disappeared again. The contractor came out again and worked on it for a couple hours and said he found the problem. A piece of the brazing got inside the system and blocked an orifice. He said he removed it, recharged the system, and all was good. Well, all was good for a whole 4 days, when this piece of junk stopped heating yet again. When the contractor was here last, he said he would order another valve assy. "just in case". I think he knew something he wasn't telling me, but I hope that new valve assy. is at his shop, 'cause it's now needed. If that doesn't correct the problem, I'm just going to have to start raising a stink until the entire unit gets replaced (perhaps with a different brand).

"Too Loud!"
Just moved into a new condo. Builder installed Amana heat pumps in all of the units to save money. My heating cost in this small condo is more than the 1700 sq ft house I moved out of. And worse of all, this unit makes the loudest whoosh sound every time it cuts on and off! What is up with that?! I am a very, very sound sleeper and this thing wakes me up all night long. I hate it. As soon as I can afford to replace it, it's gone!

"I hate it"
I had a 16 seer unit installed in my home. About a month after install, the unit stopped working. I called the company that installed it and they came out and told me it had a bad valve. They replaced the whole heat pump and then a week later it happened again. I called the company again and they told me that the new heat pump had the bad valve in it too. I had two things I could do, I could change the valve on the new heat pump or I could replace the unit with a differant brand. I paid a little extra and bought a Coleman heat pump. Now, I have heat. I don't blame the company that installed it, they were very on top of it. I blame Amana.

"Amana / Goodman 15 seer Heat Pump"
I had two 15 seer Amana heat pumps installed in August of 09. Both have had problems with the reversal valve and I've had to use the "emergency" heat setting all winter due to this issue. My electric bill has been through the roof. DO NOT BE TEMPTED TO TAKE A CHANCE AND BUY AN AMANA/GOODMAN TO SAVE A FEW BUCKS. PAY THE EXTRA MONEY AND GET A TRANE.

"Unsatisfactory Performance"
My Amana Heat Pump Model asz14 was installed on 8/25/06. It provided cooling during summer and heat during winter. However, in less than a year it started to give less cool air during summer and less warm air during the winter. When I called Clark & Rush, who installed the system, for service, they discovered that the unit has lost a lot of refrigerant. And I was further told that there was a leak somewhere and for them to find the leak, they will have to charge me $800+. So I said no, and got another air conditioning mechanic to look for the leak. It cost me half of what Clark and Rush was chargning me to find the leak. Apparently, the leak was not in the evaporator or the line going to the evaporator but at the heat pump. To make a long story short, the Clarke and Rush people, came, charged the system with refrigerant as well as a dye they said would help them locate where the leak is coming from. They returned after a month or so and indicated that the leak was coming from the braze of the line that is connected to the heat pump. After they fixed the braze, they charged the unit with refrigerant. This was on 11/11/08. About September of 2009, I noticed that the heat pump is not giving cold air or warm air. My a/c mechanic checked the system and had to charged it with 7 lbs. of refrigerant. Apparently, the heat pump is still leaking. Now, even after being charged, the system is still not giving cold or warm air. I should have gotten Carrier instead which is what I had before and had very few problems with it.

"rip Off Dealers!!!"
I had a another brand Unit for about 15 years, It went out on me, a friend suggested an Amana, not ever having had one, I was in doubt. They installed it and about 6 yrs later the blower motor went out. Called the installer that had gone out of business!! Called around an could not find anyone to service it, finally called a service tech guy, he charged me $800.00 for a $85.00 blower motor. I then found out about the 10 year warranty!! Bottom line- Amana- Verrrry poor service system, no techincal support direct from the company!!! Do yourself a favor n stick to a large brand company that has its own service team or you just might regret it!!! The actual heat pump is ok- Service sucks!!!!

"DO NOT BUY AN AMANA OR GOODMAN"
I moved into a house in 2006 that had a brand new Amana Heat Pump and Goodman air handler installed that same year by the previous owner. It is now 2009, and I have spent more than $1800 repairing the units with more money about to be soaked into it today (parts are covered under warranty, however labor isn't). So far, I've replaced the indoor coil and reversing valve. Today, I think the compressor is bad. If it is, I'm having the hvac company rip that piece of "you know what" out and put in a Trane.
