I had a new Tempstar vs90 furnace and 14 seer heat pump installed last year. Compared to the old oil furnace, it is saving me big money in the winter. So far no problems to report. The unit is also very quiet. Can barely hear it running when it kicks on. I would recommend Tempstar to anyone. Properly installed, they'll give the same, if not better, performance than a much more expensive Carrier or Lennox, which I also got estimates on. Glad I made the choice I did.

Comments on HVAC-Talk message boards and heating contractor sites are somewhat critical regarding the Tempstar Furnaces:
- One guest at the HVAC-Talk forums claims that installation of the Tempstar fan blower motor is expensive, especially when it involves labor. A service tech confirmed this, saying that it customarily includes parts, labors, and other fees.
- Another person at the HVAC-Talk forums says that the outside condenser won't work. Resetting does not work either. The poster concluded that the circuit board may cause problems.
- Another guest claims that the Tempstar works only periodically. Shutting off the unit and letting it sit sometimes fixes the problem.
- A service tech at HVAC-Talk forums asserts that draft motor problems and faulty ignition can cause the unit to behave erratically or not at all. Proper maintenance is essential, especially with the wiring.
