"Overall Pretty Solid Unit"
Installed when house was built in 2000, one repair to the igniter. Which as a desiel mechanic, it is the same thing as a glow plug on a truck - and those go out as well - so I guess you could say that is expected

"Furnace"
We installed a new furnace in our rental home 6 years ago and it has been absolutely trouble free. What a change the last unit was a 10 year old Trane that we nearly had repairs done on annually.

"3 Months old and "faulty"..and I'm supposed to pay to have it changed!!!"
We had a Ruud installed in October and moved into our house in January. The furnace was loud, sounded like a deisel truck in the basement. I complained to the installer but he denied anything was wrong. Finally I called the distributor and the Rep. They came and looked at the furnace and sure enough, it's defective. But instead of exchanging this practically brand new furnace out for us, the Ruud is only willing to give ua a labour credit of $300. towards the $2000. labour bill to remove it and then install another furnace. The installer and the distributor wont return my calls and I am now calling the national customer service line, waiting for a call back. Take my advice, get a big name company to do your install and buy a trane. I wish I did.

"Thanks for the 21 years RUUD!!"
Replacing our Ruud system that was originally put in our house 21 years ago! It may have been noisy and not the most efficient (60%) but it never let us down. Looking forward to a new system, but I have nothing but thanks to our Ruud system.

"Beware"
It would have been cheaper to burn dollar bills than fixing this thing. It is only 6 years old and I've put in over $1000 into it. And of course it always fails on a weekend.

"Excellent Furnace Great Installation"
Live in Kitchener Ontario where the winters can be brutal. Had a Ruud rgrm-06 (60,000 btuh) 2-Stage gas valve, variable speed blower motor- furnace and 14ajm 1.5 ton air conditioner and coil installed (16.00 seer system overall). Furnace is quiet, system is matched with the proper thermostat (Honeywell Vision Pro IAQ) which also allows dehumidification, will also run my humidifier in the winter and also controls my hrv-all from the thermostat. Only one of the sales representatives that came by our home even mentioned that a variable speed Ruud furnace would be able to dehumidify in the summer months- and then humidify in the winter months- he knew everything about the Ruud furnace and air conditioner, knew the best controls (T-Stat)and measured everything properly for a quick and well done installation which included enlarging our return air duct as the existing one was too small to allow proper air flow back to the furnace. A good furnace need a great company to install it! The local (20 years in business) Kitchener contractor also sells Trane as their primary brand and when we did the comparisons, we chose the Ruud based on the fact that you could believe the sales-comfort advisor. He didn't try to sell us, only presented the facts about the two brands of systems. We were replacing a Lennox high end system that was only eight years old every year from the first year on- something else would go on it- then finally the heat exchanger went- after only eight years- trouble from year one.

"Confusion"
Most of the negative reviews on here have nothing to do with the manufacturer at all. Come on, problems in a rental place. How many land lords have tenants that change there filter every month, let alone keep a clean house. Dirt, dust, and moisture are the cause of most furnace service issues. A lot of contractor issues also. Did they do a load calculation to size the furnace correctly or did they just match it to the one you had? Is your duct correctly sized? Over temping is a furnace killer. I like the one that could not get the contractor to call back after bringing a factory representative out and that will never buy a Ruud again. Why is that Ruud's fault sounds like if he had to get a representative, he doesn't know what he is doing. If you all want some real advice, research your contractors. An improperly installed furnace will always have problems. Any brand. That's a guarantee.

"Underachiever"
I have owned this Ruud 90 plus furnace for approximately 10+ years. I have had service on this unit approximately every other year. As I have heard before problems seem to be minimal nevertheless it keeps it from functioning properly. I live in the upper mid west where the temperature drastically changes from day to day and I cross my fingers when I have to use this unit for heat. I would not recommend this Ruud FURN/Achiever 90 Plus unit.

"Can't beat a Ruud!!!"
Most of these reviews are bogus and self inflicted by poor installation!!! I installed a Ruud furnace in my house 22 years ago when I bought it, the first season I blew a board, I thought well it can happen so it was replaced under warranty. :] The second heating season same thing blew another board, crap, but it was covered under warranty. The repair man suggested I have my electric box checked because these boards just don't fail like this. Sure enough my ground circuit was loose and 20 years later same board furnace is great. In those 22 years I replaced one hot surface box and 2 ignitors.
