"Payne really lives up to it's name...a real "Payne" int the neck."
I would never recommend Payne anything to anybody. I talked to a woman by the name of Diane who is Senior Customer Relations something- or- other for Payne, and all I can say is what a rude, unhelpful blankety blank. She should be fired from her job they way she "handled" things. Their warranty is crooked and worthless. I will slander that company's name along with that Diane lady to everyone I know.

"Payne is not a Pain!"
Like one reviewer said, it's the install that is the problem. I work as hvac Tech on a military base. I installed Payne furnaces and a/c units for years. I do a lot of install side work and have installed dozens of these. Payne is built by Carrier and is identical part for part other than the label on the front and most important to consumers, the price! They run about $400 cheaper. I have installed a lot over 15 years and have only 1 fail. It was a bad draft motor in the first 4 months and was covered by warranty. I have one in my home for 10 years without a glitch. These are easy to troubleshoot and technician friendly, with not a lot of unneeded sensors like your York, Tranes and Lennox,(those brands are brutal and over priced). They more forgiving on the install unlike the brands I noted . If your piping and duct work isn't exact they will shutdown from all the B.s sensors they put in. Any homeowner with a little bit of mechanical knowledge can repair these. I am not a Payne spokes person or distributor and have no benefit to promoting Payne. I'm just a tech who stumbled on this review site and saw the poor rating and was amazed at how low it was. By the way, I live in Buffalo, New York where all heating equipment is well tested. Again, check the installer, there's your problem!!

"Literally A Payne"
We bought this unit in 2000, after a 1.5 yrs had to replace the ignitor. Since then the ignitor has been replaced 5 times total, the blower has been replaced and now another motor is gone costing over $600...don't think we are going to fix it...time to scrap it and get a different unit. Will it be a Payne, heck no it's literally a pain.

"doesn't matter"
My pane furnace lasted 14 years. During that time I had it repaired 4 different times and my heat energy payments are high. I won't buy another pane.

"Payne really sux"
I purchased a Payne PY1P-B Gas pack /ac unit in 2004 and have had nothing but trouble. 4 blower fans have come apart, replaced the control board, leak in the ac gas system, now my blower in the heat exchanger is bad and they want $600 to replace. I wouldn't buy any thing that has Payne on it.

"Weak Mechanical Parts"
I have had the Payne furnace for the past ten years, and during this time it has given me a rather negative impression. I would recommend buying Payne's compatriots units which are eithe Bryant or Carrier, because the parts used in the Payne furnace are not made to last. Within the two years of use, it began to give me problems. First, the inducer motor began making a very loud grinding noise. The technician who came out installed a washer underneath one of the screws which seemed to fix the problem...but only for about 2-3 more years. The grinding noise resumed and no easy method (WD-40 or removing the washer) seemed to fix the issue so I had to spend $300 to get it replaced. Into its sixth year the blower motor went out as well. There went another $300, but I had the Carrier Blower Motor installed instead of replacing it with another Payne motor. One year later, I had to spend another $200 for a new control (pc) board. Finally, just a year ago the inducer motor went out again during the winter while my family and I were on vacation. Had to spend $300 on a new motor once again and $400 to fix the burst pipes. Having said that, I would have to commend the unit on being able to heat the home well and rather quickly.

"Payne heater 394JAZ460095AAFA"
Nightmare. Can't even get a filter that fits, and have to cut one, which is miserable (never fits properly). We use it, turning it off and on for only an hour at a time. It overheats and has cracked the plaster wall where the duct runs underneath it. The repairman could do nothing to fix it. Since new, it has never worked. I wish we had never replaced our old furnace. From reading reviews, installation may be a problem. Will look into that.

"Do not even consider a Payne"
This piece of junk has been the worst experience of my life. Unit overheats inside the circuit board shuttinh it down. Poorly designed.
