I have never owned a Payne hot air unit, but I have installed hundreds of them over the last 12 years. Mid efficiency pg8 (80% chimney models) & high efficiency pg9 (92% plastic vent models) are normally trouble free when installed correctly. They need normal maintenance & occasional repair. If you are having chronic problems with either of these type of units, I can tell you that your installer most likely has done the installation incorrectly.

It's not the furnace it is the install. 2 pipe system ,vented properly runs like a charm.

Our 92.1 efficiency Payne furnace and a/c was installed when our house was built 10 years ago. I was somewhat skeptical because I thought it was a bargain brand. Had some service on the a/c because I didn't maintain the water line properly. Otherwise, no issues in 10 years. Heating could be more even but that is a result of the duct installation rather than the furnace.

great furnace, just like a carrier for a fraction of the cost. Have not had one problem and heats the house up great!
