"Heat Exchanger Failures"
In 1989 I had upgraded to a g8q3-120e furnace. This unit performed well for 15 years. During a regular pre-winter service check, our servicing dealer's technician asked permission to cut open the side to inspect the heat exchanger. When he had access to the heat exchanger, he found 4 major cracks on the Duracurve heat exchanger, that required immediate shut down and furnace replacement. This really bothered me as to why the dealer only advised us years after the problem was known. It is disturbing to think of the potential results with carbon monoxide entering the living areas.

I had a Lennox g60dxv installed in March of 2005. I had contracted for the smallest unit (70,000btu) but they installed the next size larger, When I questioned the salesman he said he substituted the larger unit so it would never go into the second stage. hah! I think it was because the larger cabinet fit my installation easier. I made them remove the oversized unit and replace it with the proper sized unit. I had the free service after the first year and was less-than-impressed by the technician. He was certainly likeable and seemed to know what he was doing but I had to ask him to check the gas pressures and then fix the battery clip on his manometer. He did not clean the heat exchanger, which Lennox suggests be done at annual check. About a month into the next heating system the unit failed without any diagnostic lights pointing to the problem. I found the draft switch connection plugged with corrosion and upon cleaning it worked okay. This same thing happened again a couple of weeks later but since the second cleaning it has been working fine the rest of the season. The installing company has been in business since 1922 so mere longevity in business is no guarantee of either quality installation or service.

"G26 furnace"
Condensation flue leak since installation. Two part exhaust flue leaks along seam. Local firm states no parts for repair are available.

Water sounds in the the fan which caused the g32 unit to quit. I have called Winnipeg Supply for several calls, but they can not find the root cause. So far all I do is spend money on last minute calls when the unit fails. Never buy a Lennox.

Review:
Purchased a Lennox G27M-3-75 high efficiency two-stage furnace in NOV 1999. Served 2x yearly as recommended. FEB 2007 started having problems. OCT 2007 started making a horrible clanging noise and sounded like burning rubber. Shut it down immediately. Called for service. Bad control board, it burned up the 2nd board from the heat. If was told if it hadn't been shut down immediately, the house could have potentially gone up in flames. Very scary! What if no one had been home? The whole house would have been lost. At 8 years old this shouldn't have happened. With an estimated repair of @ $1500.00, I had the furnace replaced with a Carrier single-stage. The Lennox unit was installed by a very reputable contractor and passed city code inspection. Something is wrong with this model and I can't get any satisfaction from Lennox. A home and lives could have been lost. I don't know where to turn.

Up until this year it has performed fine with little or no maintenance, but suddenly we're looking at $1000 in maintenance/repairs. I'm hesitant to repair it, given the reputation this unit possesses.

Bought a Lennox G61MPV36B070 for my home. The quietest furnace you can buy. It is true. Awesome product.I learned in my research that most of the folks having problems bought from a contractor who did not use journeyman installation crews, at a cheaper price. 80% of how long they last and how well any furnace works is ALL about the installation. I didn't skimp and am well satisfied. The furnace industry has huge turn over in companies that go out of business. Most installers don't know their business very well at all, even some that have been around for years hire guys who know little and install poorly. I learned that if you choose the best installers,(union guys that are real pipefitters, plumbers and sheetmetal workers,) you won't have problems. We had a great company do our work. Their guys were Nate Certified Union Journeymen.
