Overview of the HM30

Before being discontinued, the Lennox HM30 furnace was part of the Lennox Complete Heat System: a high-efficiency system for heating both water and rooms. The HM30 is the water heating module that can be installed with the AM30 air module as a close-coupled unit or separately as a remote unit.

The Complete Heat System is built with a stainless steel heat exchanger inside its water storage tank. It heats the surrounding water to the programmed temperature, and that hot water can then be diverted for use throughout the house. The other half of the Complete Heat System involves the AM30 water circulating pump. The AM30 pulls water from the HM30 heating module into the aluminum and copper space heating coil. The coil absorbs heat from the water and then warms the air forced over it by a blower. The warm air is then circulated through the home via ductwork. Meanwhile, water is returned to the HM30 for reheating.

"Worst piece of crap furnace!!!"
This early model hm30 is nothing but trouble. I have been in this house since 2002, and every year I have to spend about $500 to repair and replace parts for this obviously poorly designed piece of crap. I will never own a Lennox product even if the newer furnaces don't have the problems the hm30 has. I have never been so thoroughly disappointed and disgusted with any product as I have with this furnace/hot water heater system. Even the Lennox serviceman said "get rid of it!"

"HM30 Pice of crap!"
I will never, ever purchase another Lennox product, even if the new ones are better than the very poorly thought out hm30 Complete Heat I have in my house. I bought the house in fall of 2002. The hm30 had been installed in June 95. EVERY single year I have had a failure of $500 or more with this peice of crap. Now today, I have yet another $477 bill for a simple flow pump on the heat coil, that jammed because the plastic impeller broke apart. The impeller cannot be replaced, only the entire pump. What should be a $10 impeller is permanently attached to the $375+ pump. I have had a water tank failure, another flow pump failure, copper corrosion problems, a relay failed on the control board (which of course means a WHOLE new control board, there is corrosion on every steel, metal, aluminum and die cast part in the burner area of the water tank. Yet with every failure, the local Lennox shop has the part in stock! Even the stainless steel water tank! If you have a Lennox HM30 in your house, GET RID OF IT as soon as you can. Even one of the Lennox repairmen said if it was his house, he'd get rid of it! I have a form from Lennox to file a complaint.

"My Worst Nightmare"
This Lennox hm30 Complete Heat system has cost me over $6,498 in repairs over the past 9 years and now it is irrepairable. I have replaced a thermistor, a pump, a valve, a thermostat, combustion blowers x2, a gas valve, an electrode, a control board, a regulator, a combustion air orifice, and a tank. It broke down while we were gone and the pipes froze and cracked costing me another $1000 in repairs. Now Lennox offers me just $1800 toward the replacement system which costs $3000. How pitiful! We have gone without heat and hot water for many days and paid for the equivalent of a new system. This is unbelievable!

Other HM30 Reviews

The Lennox Complete Heat System using the HM30 heating module has a history of poor reviews. Repeated cracks and leaks within the system resulted in the discontinuation of the product. In fact, the HM30ís reoccurrence of leaks prompted a Lennox Industries Inc. to issue a letter to homeowners in 2003, acknowledging the problems and explaining terms of coverage, repairs and/or replacements. The letter urges homeowners to talk with their Lennox dealer about repair and/or replacement issues.

A Lennox dealer reports on www.hvac-talk.com that Lennox has continued to help homeowners with HM30 systems still under warranty by removing and replacing the units if or when problems arise. One such replacement used in the event of an HM30 failure under warranty is the HM61 CompleteHeat system. However, systems out of the warranty limits have no guarantee of replacement, the poster points out.

HM30 Warranty

For residential applications, the Complete Home System comes with a 5-year warranty on parts, and the water tank is covered for 10 years. For non-residential applications, a 1-year warranty applies for parts and the compressor is covered for 5 years.
