This furnace has vibrated and sounded like a London Fog horn since Nelson heating/Everett WA installed. The Company came out and reprogrammed it.. Nelson has worked on it at least 8 times in the past very few years...it works for a while only to return to noise and vibrating... For almost 10,000 dollars it sure seems it ought top function properly

"Dont like them as an installer"
I am a "solo plumber". I have been installing high efficiency boilers for about 10 years and have had to do repairs on about 5 of them in that whole time. I agree with all of you that Munchkin is a terrible product, but you must also pick your installer of any high efficiency product very carefully. Also remember the size of the company does not matter. I am a one person company and the manufacturers call me from time to time to go repair their units. And if anyone wants my input, I swear by Triangle Tubes products with a 10 year parts and labor warranty for certified installers and a lifetime warranty on indirect water heaters. I hope my opinion is of assistance to people.

"munchkin furnace"
I hate this product!! I am a single mom and don't know what to do. I have for the past few years had this unit serviced due to f9 and f11 errors. The local gas company won't service this product and plumbers charge a small fortune. How many times can a product be serviced before it needs to replaced? I have already replaced a part that cost over 500!

"Munchkin Boiler # 199M ?"
Munchkin was praised highly by the heating contractor when we were switching over from oil heat to natural gas. What a big mistake! If the dealer loved the Munchkin, I can see why: He's working on it constantly. We, Munchkin owners are supporting the heating/plumbing services. No, they love Munchkin. Never again will we buy Munchkin. We have had error codes upon error codes, flame, panel, and now after less than four years, the cheap plastic fan blade is split and broken. Eleven hundred dollars later, we still have that piece of excrement in the basement, like a ticking time bomb, scheduled to misfire and self-destruct at regular intervals. Piece of crap!

"Factory Rep. Install."
Our first unit (140) was purchased with the store more system. When it worked, it supplied hot water for domestic and radiant. The factory rep helped to install as it was a complete system and was utilized as a training tool. The first unit was replaced after countless visits from the installer and factory rep, leaking propane, control board failure and lock outs. This week was the first real issue with the new boiler since it was installed in February 2007. Keeping in mind that it only heats hot water for domestic from April-November. The problem was a degregated swirl plate. We expect failure each time the weather turns cold. I am heading out to check the exhaust for separation from intake. I would not recommend this system to anyone and am trying to figure out how best to cut my losses. It is frustrating to spend $600-$1,000 each year in repairs and maintenance just to hope for heat.

"Poor Machine"
This machine was described as highly efficient. I heat with lpg and this has been efficient when it runs but I needed to clean the system annually and it needs to be reset frequently. I thought it was highly reliable. It is not and I would recommend that you pass on this brand if you have other options.

"munchkin frustration"
In five years we have had over nine service calls. I bought this furnace because we live in northern Michigan and wanted reliability. Now when we leave, a neighbor has to check to keep the house from freezing. About every other month the flame censer and igniter need cleaning. The reset button needs to be manually activated about that often also.

"Munchkin Cautions"
This boiler was recommended and installed by a big Washington, D.C. company, jones and woods. do not hire them. Lots of problems because basically they had no idea what they were doing and lied to me about all the experience they have had installing these units, as evidenced by the elementary mistakes they made. Finally got the Munchkin rep. on a site visit and he confirmed that they had left out major components, like the secondary circulator pump on the supply side, as plainly specified in the install manual. Learned lots from the rep, who was great, both about improvements in the Rev. 2 version of this unit as well recommendations: this little baby puts out lots of water as condensate, which must be directed back into the unit by having the exhaust pipe tilted back into the house. Steams outside like a locomotive in cold weather. The condensate, however, is high acid and must be neutralized with a kit as over time it will eat through even a cast iron drain. Condensate outlet to floor drain important. Also be advised: Heat transfer products, the manufacturer, does not have a warranty registration and installation certification program, in spite of what they say in print and on their website. Appalling. Also, three electrical appliances necessary to operate affects energy cost savings, as does required annual cleaning of "combusion residue" from interior of unit.

"Munchkin and Peerless"
We have a Munchkin in one home and in the other the plumber put in a Peerless Pinacle because it "was the same" (now he says he was wrong and would "never put in a Peerless" Ugg. We chose the high efficiency to save on fuel. But our backup (thank GOD we had one) is a little propane fireplace with a blower - which is what our home relied on most of the winter when we were away. We were told by the most professional plumbing people not to go high efficiency but to go a step down and get a real reliable one. We didn't listen. The Peerless is a POS and we will probably replace it by Fall 09 with what I do not know. Whatever it is it has to be small - the whole system is in a closet. The Munchkin has worked well but it sounds like a tuba - really loud when it is operating at first. It's obnoxious and the steam that comes out is annoying out of both of them. This mistake was MY fault for choosing something I was warned not to choose. If you have an option of something with a warantee and a reliable installer and a company that answers the phone when you call about their product go with that instead. This is nonsense. You don't live in NE MN with a furnace that turns off. Oh and did I mention it? Our installer went bankrupt. Too much nonsense, every repair person disses the last one who tried, then his repair fails and the folks who send them out say "we'll send someone out to have a stab at it" for 600 bucks. Yeah. Dreadful things these.

The furnace works good when it works. It won't run when the power goes using a large generator 8500 and I have had to replace the blower fan three times so far at a cost of $450 each time. I was told the generator would have to be grounded to work but it still won't work.
