"Old and reliable hi eff furnace"
Bought this high efficiency furnace(Megasave1) in 1982 and 30 years later, this unit still purrs like new. Stainless steel heat exchanger still in great shape. Repair history....replaced rusted vent fan once. Unit is simple with 2 heat exchangers and...no electronic boards to repair. Just simple limit switches for safety. My flue gas exhaust temperature is 90f while my warm air temperature is 130f and that spells savings. My officemate bought the same unit then and had the same satisfying experience with this product. Why can't they make a product like this anymore?

"Simple machines are more reliable than complex ones."
Never had problems, yes a little noisy, never stopped working, reliable. I would buy Clare Brothers again.

"Great Furnace"
This furnace is maintenance free! Unlike the newer furnaces which I had in my other houses. Don't be fooled thinking the newer furnaces will save you money, replacing this one for a newer one won't save you money unless you live in the house for 75 years.

"does the fact that the furncae is 26 years old matter?"
WE bought this house 5 years a go & we never had any problems with our clare furnace at all is suppose to be as old as the house 26 years old from 1984 all I did was replace the filter & fan belt which helps with the loudness of the fan but that don t bother us the only question I have is can the heat exchanger be check to make sure is in good condition if anyone knows I appreciate the feedback because is the only concern I have besides that I am very pleased with this furnace people from several companies comming to the door offering financing or selling all different types of furnaces high efficiency but for $3000 & up I don t want to spend the money if what I have still works well & after reading some of the night mares some people went through with some of the newer models....

"Excellent Furnace"
The best. I was going to replace it but a HVAV man told me not to do that. If it is working ok save your money. The new ones are NOT as reliable. This furnace is as old as the house (1977). I love my Clare Hecla furnace, an oldy but a goody.

"great unit"
20 years of virtually trouble free use, had ignitor replaced once about 10 years ago and had a relay switch go bad. It has been very reliable, slightly noisy but would recommend this product. I was told once they went bankrupt and closed and parts were scarce, but now I see them listed. I will be checking because I'm thinking of replacement to upgrade heating unit and air-conditoning.

"Clare"
Owned this furnace for 10 years but existed in this house for another 20 years. In the last 10 years, I just changed the motor bearing and that too by myself. No problems, whatsoever. Hard to see it go now that we are changing over to a high efficiency furnace to save on gas.

"Works Great"
'Inherited' this furnace when bought our house in 2000. Though furnace fan is quite loud, our yearly service company indicates the Clare is built very well. Service company indicates most parts are still available and even though it's not a well known brand in our area/city (Eau Claire, Wisconsin)it's been very reliable. Will stick with it for a few more years and will go to a quieter unit with a dual fan.

Review:
"Old Faithful"
House and Furnace both 29 years old as of this writing. This Furnace keeps going and going with annual cleaning/check ups. Service tech says these are simple units with heat exchangers built like a tank. The reason the service tech recommends replacement is for much better efficiency plus less availability of replacement parts. I know the day will come when I will give in for a new unit...just sad to replace something so reliable. :(

Review:
Although the furnace is about 20 yrs, I have been in the house for 10 years and only this year, 2008, had to replace the igniter. It has been a very good and reliable furnace and I would be happy to buy a newer more efficient one but having trouble finding a distributor. I believe keeping the furnace serviced once a year really helps to maintain its functionality.
