"DISSAPPOINTED"
The carrier 58mtb100 but as I found out the blowers appear to go rather quickly. The heat exchanger works well but the blower died just about 1.5 months after 5 year parts warranty is expired. Planned obsolescense!!! I think next time I will buy a cheaper company and just save the money to repair them! I could have bought a similiar goodman furnace for half the price and had it run longer without problems.

"Heat exchange problem"
Our furnace is just 10 years old, and previous to this issue our furnace had been fine. However, now we have had to shut it down due to heat exchange problem and major amounts of carbon monoxide venting outside and trace amounts in the furnace room. We are in the process of dealing with Carrier...so far the person on the phone said they knew what the problem was without me explaining our circumstance. If he can diagnose over the phone there is obviously a big problem with this furnace (90% efficiency model previous to 2007). To me this is an admission of guilt!!!!!!

"B Witte if full of it"
Hate to school B Witte, but it's also the product. When you run the averages, certain manufactures standout. As the owner of the brand, Carrier can monitor and address poor installers. It's just whether they bother to make the effort. There's nothing unique about Carrier in this regard. Carrier is average, I have over 50 units installed in rentals throughout Akron. They cover three different Brands, all serviced by the same HVAC company. Of these brands, Trane has been the least problematic, Carrier second and York third. I keep track of these costs so when it come time to replace them I know which way to go. These are not top of the line units, probably considered 'good', 85-90 efficiency models. I'm looking for units that work to the tenants satisfaction and don't give me any headaches or extra costs. I've had Trane replace blowers under warranty with no issue and Carrier fight me all the way, this is a 'manufacture' warranty, so I would not expect the HVAC guy to eat the costs but do expect them to lead the fight. My direct comparisons of Carrier to others such as Trane have me sold on Trane and how much they back their products at the manufacturer level. I wish Carrier did the same. By the way, I'm not adding any York systems to my units, they have been by far the worse product(8 times the calls vs Trane)

"Infinity 96"
I inherited this furnace. Generally, it's quiet and efficient. In the summer it cools fairly well (but isn't really challenged in this region). It has been having problems with overheating and generates smoke and acrid smells. Three technicians have tried to diagnose it without success. If it actually worked properly, I'd rate it much higher.

"Blower Failures"
My furnace is a model 58MVP080-1-14 and is 13 years old. I have now gone thru 3 of the blower assemblies(not the large blower that moves air into the duct work but the smaller blower that comes on when the furnace starts up). The latest cost for the part is $615 plus labor. My neighbor has replaced two blowers so far. I contacted Carrier and naturally they indicate there is no problem and are not willing to help or even look into the problem. For you people who are thinking about installing a Carrier you might want to look into this problem as service costs are getting high. I can't complain about anything else about the furnace, it has worked good, its this part keeps failing. For the gentleman who thinks most of the problems stem from bad installers, it is not always the installer but companies do have design issues, they just don't wish to admit it.

"Performance/Infinity series"
Purchase furnace/heatpump in June 2010, within a couple weeks it quit running totally and then board had to be replace; from the moment of installation the unit has been LOUD when it starts up - sounds like a train coming to a stop and the house vibrates - wakes us up at night! Very annoying. Have inquired about this on 3 different occasions (summer and fall) and the technicians say it's due to the high pressure when the reversing valve engages. They tell me that is common problem with Carrier units. Our old - MUCH cheaper units NEVER made this kind of noise. The good point is that it has lowered our heating bills rather substantially (all electric house)however fear the unit is not going to hold up long with the noise it's making and the vibrating of the house. I see other's have similiar problems but I don't see any of them getting resolution on how to fix it as the technician's don't seem to know any solution that they are willing to share. Has anyone found an answer to this noise problem - what exactly is not installed properly that would result in this kind of noise and vibration?? Any information would be appreciated.

"over engineered"
way too much money for little pay back! worked fine for 2 yrs then had issues then more issues . paid twice what i could have got a low end 92% goodman for. our infinty furnace has endless problems that seem just stupid . why would you make a furnace so complex it becomes undepenable? so i save $80 over 2 yrs over the cheapo generic furnace but the carrier cost 1.5 k more figured my payback would be 15 yrs if it worked right (it didnt ) its a nightmare! just hype! comfort level wasnt any different than the old reem standing pilot it replaced that was still going strong after 25 yrs spent 6k and never going to see a payback . atleast with a chepo furnace i could just get rid of and get a new one but you cant just eat the 6k you spent on this over engineered over priced furnace AVOID !

Vibrating fan:On installation the fan was replaced. This did not change the situation. The reason for the vibration may be in the mounting. Must call installer. Will ask for resolution of this design problem; I believe the fan itself is sound.

"Carrier Furnace and Air Conditioner"
I bought a Carrier furnace 2 years ago and found it to be very quiet and powerful. This year we found out, there is a recall on the Heat Exchanger. Nobody ever contacted us about it and our dealer is out of business. I called Carrier and they basically told me not to worry about it as I am not having problems. After doing some digging I found out that there is a class action lawsuit against Carrier for using plastic to coat inferior metal components to save money and people have been ripped off. Furnace is running good I just can't get an answer one way or another from Carrier.

"Repairing after a few years already"
Bought the Carrier 9300 Weathermaker five years ago. Started having noisy blower motor problems last year. No help from Carrier nor the installer unless I paid $125. Recently the furnace kept shutting down in minus zero weather. Had to call the installer who insisted motor needed replacing for $520 and should have lasted longer than five years however the installer nor Carrier would do anything so if I wanted heat, I had to pay out $520. Next time a furnace is needed, it won't be a Carrier brand.
