"Unbelievably poor quality and service"
I'm on my second Carrier furnace in 7 years. Both have had a cracked heat exchange. Both were determined by the Carrier dealer to be a manufacturers defect. Carrier refuses to address the issues, refuses to replace the unit and even refuses to return phone calls (Mike id1608 on the national service number). If you are in the market for a furnace you would be wise to stay away from any Carrier product.

"Carrier Weathermaker 8000ts-58cta"
Don't buy a carrier furnace. So far we have had 9 service calls in the 8 years of ownership. The furnace has had everything go from burners, igniters, flame sensors, etc. Avoid carrier like the plague unless you like to get to know your carrier service repairman by name and recognize his voice over the phone.

"Infinity Weathermaker Carrier"
Inducer blower replaced 3 times, igniter replaced once, condensate tube replaced once, pressure switches replaced once, condensate trap plugged once. Awaiting the heat exchanger(s) to fail. The Class Action Lawsuit won't help, our unit is too old. You cannot expect any meaningful warranty coverage from Carrier. Maintenance cost has clearly exceeded the installation cost of the unit. Add in the down time and unreliable nature associated with the unit and I can't recommend to a friend. Living in very cold Minnesota if it fails at -20 while we are on a trip we loose the plumbing, very expensive proposition. If you attempt to reduce the cost of maintenance and do it yourself you can't because the parts cannot be purchased except by a Carrier dealer, proprietary not good IMHO. I take blame for NOT researching the different brands and picking out the best for me. Back in 1994 there simply not many sources like this Blog for research AND not many efficent furnaces to pick from. Do yourself a favor and consider ALL aspects of buying, maintaining, using, paying for a furnace. Carrier might be your choice, just make sure to minimize surprises post installation.

Review:
"Secondary heat exchanger warranty"
My review is based on their secondary heat exchanger warranty. Carrier had a lawsuit dealing with this problem, but you had to file by 2008 to benefit from it. Although they still have a warranty that states that they will pay for the part and labor for 20 years (or maybe even lifetime now). Well when I attempted to receive my warranty claim The carrier technicians were not willing to do the warranty labor for what Carrier was willing to pay them. I got the serious run around from both the company and the dealers. First you had to have a licensed Carrier dealer give you a $80 - $100 confirmation that it is broken, then they give you a bloated estimate, $500 - $600 over what Carrier the company is willing to pay. Therefore trying to sell you a new furnace instead. I went back and forth between them for a weak without heat. Each time I called a different installer they insisted on another $80 -$100 estimate!??! I finally gave up and got a better more efficient Rheem furnace at a less price than there so called, $500 discounted price. I will never, never, never deal with any Carrier associated company again!

"Infinity NOISY,NOISY, might as well live on the tarmac"
I'm so sick of being awakened by the "turbine" wind noise coming out of my ceiling vents. I've had repair people out 3 times for this one issue. They never fix it, the system was insanely expensive, I get angry every time I pass by my thermostats, don't buy!

"home owner"
Replaced what might have been a perfectly fine 20+ year old furnace with this "top of the line" model from carrier. We were off on a winter-long trip and wanted to be sure the house would be safe. The furnace failed three times that fall before our departure. Now year 3 and its the inducer motor. What a piece of unreliable crap. Seems this is a fairly common $600 problem. And this furnace has barely been used over the three winters as we have been traveling. Services have been friendly and on time.

Review:
"Noise problem is "normal"?"
I have just had a furnace/ac installed - the 90% efficiency gas base furnace by Carrier. The furnace seems to work okay heating but there is a high pitched hum, like someone blowing over the top of an open Coke bottle, coming from the furnace. The install company says this is "normal." After several hours of service calls (during which they discovered and fixed an off-center blower wheel), they are blaming my ductwork when the sound is clearly coming from the unit. If this is what Carrier considers normal, then I would not recommend this brand. I have had a high efficiency Lennox and a high efficiency American Standard installed in the past in very similar houses. These units worked fine and were quiet. Not sure if this is Carrier or the installer, but I am not pleased with the unit.

"Infinity is Total CRAP! Will never buy carrier again..."
Have Infinity hvac system installed brand new in one of my rentals and has had to be serviced at least 3 times a year. Average cost is around $400 for labor and they always have to wait for a part which is "covered" under warranty! Both ac & heat are a problem. Will be going with Trane or sears for other properties. CARRIER SUCKS!
