"58cva110 funace motor failure"
Woke on the coldest day of the year and the furnace isn't working. Called the dealer whom which I have had the near mandatory service contract with. Within minutes they determine the motor is bad. Cost 1500 to replace! 5 year warranty just ran out a few months ago. I was flabbergasted that the second most important piece in my furnace went only after 5 years. The next biggest insult was the price. They replace the motor and the ecm altogether even though it seems you can buy them separately. To me this is like your car engine blowing up 6 months after the warranty is out and you have changed the oil regularly. I just hope this isn't the start of my woes with this brand.

"Carrier HX's"
Weathermaker 9200 58mxa100-16) High efficiency furnace has run good since I bought the house in 2003. Recently had what I suspected to be a cracked heat exchanger since I was getting exhaust smell in the house. (Which Carrier claims won't happen) Did some research and found a settlement in 2008 from a class action suit against Carrier. They are supposed to replace the hx and pay the 4hrs labor to do it. If someone is saying they will replace it and charge you labor they are ripping you off. read the settlement - you can find it on-line. Under no circumstances is the customer to be charged more. I called a couple of authorized Carrier installers and they didn't even know about the settlement. They also offer a "discount" if you want to just install a new system instead of replace a bad part with another bad part. That's probably the best option, but the discount doesn't offset the hefty price tag.

"Between a rock and a hard place"
In April of 1993 I had a high-efficiency Carrier 58sxc100 installed. It ran without problems until 18 months ago when it needed a new ignitor. Two days ago, it refused to heat the house more than 62-63 degrees. Today (Friday), the Carrier serviceman told me that the heat exchanger has ceased functioning and that the furnace (along with many other Carrier furnaces manufactured since 1998) was part of a class action suit. The warranty on the heat exchanger (covering parts and labor) has been extended to 20 years -- but he recommended replacing the entire furnace (for which Carrier which give me an as-yet-unknown credit) with a new Carrier. On Monday, I'll know the extent of the financial damage. But in the meantime, I'm left wondering why a supposedly first-class manufacturer like Carrier ever knowingly used sub-industry standard steel for the heat exchanger. And what unknown drawbacks there might be in a new Carrier.(Do I really want another one?)

"58MVP"
New it had a bad induced draft blower, not warranted because homeowner installed it, and why did the homeowner make the blower? Ignighter failed last year and now it's freezing up in the exhaust pipe with our cold temps.

"48gs carrier"
This unit has done well on the A/C part and with 8 years the heat inducter wheel had completely rusted off when we tried heat last week. Parts and labor was 455.00...repair man said he had replaced 9 last year and said it was a poor design. Had to replace panel and all...looks like they could use stainless for the blower wheel at least...outside of unit looks brand new

"Carrier Gas Furnace"
Model 58wav 111-14...replaced circuit board after 4 yrs use. Routine service call today for seasonal cleaning & check-up uncovered a cracked heat exchanger. To replace , $900 & up...and serviceman pointed out with age of unit , other components , ie blower moter, wheel, etc, surely will start breaking down. As previous customers have mentioned, expected this furnace to last at least 15-20 years. Guess they just don't make things to last anymore. Will be buying a new furnance , but not a Carrier. After some quick surfing & researching, will go for a Goodman this time.

Review:
"Carrier 58PAV"
The furnace performed well, until recently. We had an issue with our central air system, and had the entire system inspected. During the inspection it was determined that the heat exchanger is cracked and the blower was in need of replacement. The total repair cost was estimated to be in the neighborhood of $1,300. The service technician informed us that the cracked heat exchanger is a known issue with this furnace. Even if Carrier will cover the part under their warranty, it will still cost approximately $900-$1,000 to repair. We are very disappointed as we expected our furnace life to be 15-20 years. We will definitely go with another brand for our replacement!!
