The Carrier 58PAV is an 80 percent AFUE, natural gas, induced-combustion furnace that has not been manufactured since about 2001. This upflow series includes more than 10 models that can be downsized to stand as low as 40 inches. Units range in heating capacities from 45,000 to 155,000 BTU/H.
The 58PAV is promoted by the manufacturer for its simple service, thanks to a control board that features a self-test function that can check all major functions of the unit within one minute. A LED status indicator and a 3-amp fuse to protect the transformer are additional components of the control board.
Additional features of the unit include an aluminized steel heat exchanger designed for efficient heat transfer; a hot surface ignition system; a galvanized steel, rust-resistant cabinet; a soft mount inducer assembly; and a slow opening gas valve to promote quiet operation. Accessories, including a conversion kit for propane use, also are available for the 58PAV.

"Pretty bad"
I got this furnace newly installed by the previous owner of my house, just 2 weeks before moving in. Summary: o 4 years no issues o next 7 years I had to repair it 5 times, circuit board 3 times and sensors twice o each repair on average $300 (ranging from $225 to $350) o not nice waking up at 5 AM in wintertime with furnace blowing cold air (outdoor temp -20 Celsius or so) o the fan is partially broken, loud noises during start until it reaches "cruising" speed Conclusion: wondering how these guys are still in business. Will never buy another Carrier product unless it has 10 years warranty or similar. I've tried to keep my language clear of the word "crap", you would guess in what context. Couldn't.
Other 58PAV Reviews
While several homeowners post troubleshooting inquiries on DIY sites such as doityourself.com or hvac-talk.com, the Carrier 58PAV generally has a positive presence on the web. Because this is an older unit, most consumers post inquiries about units more than 15 years old, with few mentions of frequent or unexpected problems with the unit.
Contractors and reviews on sites including webhvac.com also recommend Carrier furnaces, stating that the company produces a wide variety of quality units that are backed by a solid warranty. However, some homeowners on hvac-talk.com mention they'd shy away from Carrier when shopping for a new unit because of its high price point.
