"My 10 year old Amana"
I installed this 70k btu furnace myself with matching a/c converting it to lp immediately. Had a service tech hook up and test the a/c because that takes specialized equipment. In the first two years the following failed: Main control board, flame igniter, a safety pressure switch and the seal around the plastic coil front cover. Since then the igniter has failed three times, and a pressure switch twice. I keep a spare pressure switch (~$30) and igniter (~$10) on the shelf. The igniter can be made to last 3 years by cleaning it with fine steel wool yearly. It's now part of regular fall maintenance! I'm thinking of having a spare blower on the shelf also. I purchased the Amana because Consumer Reports had rated them highly a few years prior. What I didn't know was that Goodman had since bought them out, a lot of the parts have been switched to Goodman part types. I would assume that is for lower cost. When I look for a new furnace I will treat all brands the same and do my research on sites such as furnacecompare.com.

"dogs peeing on A/C"
does someone have to beat you with a bat? Keep your dogs off the a/c no mater what. Your unit may have copper tubing like many other brands but they all have aluminum fins. when they are gone the unit may hold freon but will not cool properly because the air will be sucked through the hole and not through the fins where the heat is given up. Pressures and temperatures in an A/C unit correspond directly. The higher the temp the higher the pressure. High temp/press will kill your compressor before its time. There would be no way to accurately charge a unit in that condition. You'd be looking at another new unit.

"Installation Problem?"
I have read many reviews on this website. Many of the "unsatisfied" owners do not seem to take into account the installation. Every furnace, manufacturer will tell you that if the equipment is not properly sized for the building, and installed by technicians that abide by the rules, codes and manufacturers instructions, then problems will occur. I have been installing Amana equipment for about 3 years now, and have had extremely few problems. Also, I will admit that most of those problems were due to oversights by the installers. And we were the installers. We admit the problem, cover the repair for the customer, and learn from our mistake. In a perfect world, which is far, far away, all those working in this field, would be diligent, honest and remain educated with the industries changes. The phrase “we have always done it this way" does not cut-it anymore, and getting the job done as quickly as possible, in my opinion, is ill advised. The Amana Heating and Cooling line is a great piece of equipment and have some of the absolute best warranties available. I am also fortunate to have an Amana area wholesaler that provides great support through the process of installing and repair issues in a timely manner, so that I can give timely and correct answers to our customers. I can not say it enough to any home owner... Find an HVAC contractor that has your best interest in mind and does not treat it as a side job. You may notice I do not currently own an Amana furnace or A/C in my own home. But when my 16 year old system (Bryant) needs replacement it WILL be an Amana.

"Amana"
Furnace was in the house... It was inspected twice before we bought the house and then by the service for annual contract... Everyone raves about the furnace but we can't keep it operating... In just a couple of months, we have gone through three ignitors and a circuit board and it just failed again after repairs one week ago... Service man is frustrated and calling Amana... It might be a great unit but it stinks if it is not reliable enough to run when it is needed .... rating will go down to very unsatisfied if this continues!

"Thermopompes N & R Sol"
We installed Amana heat pump on July 22, 2009. I can’t really say how well the heat pump works but choose your contractor really well. We went with Thermopompes N & R Sol Inc, and I am regretting about our choice. We had to place a service call 4 times already (in 5 months).

"same old stories"
It seems that you can read just about the same stories for any brand of furnace, on this website and any other that I have searched. Some like them, others hate them. It seems to me that installation is the key. One thing that I have learned is that there is a lot of confusion among installers as to the size of the furnace. Some do a seat-of-pants load calculations based on averages for the region and get a warm and fuzzy feeling for the size--others just look at the old furnace and judge it from there. But customers (and of course, the "unbiased" dealers that provide advice)are not provided with much clarity as to which brands are better than others, and for what reasons. Even the Consumers Report ratings based on complains and faults do not vary much--from a low of 13% to a high of 16%. So that is not of too much use.

"not installed right"
If the system is installed right you should have very little problems with them. If you go with the lowest bidder that is never a good thing. The most important day in the life of a heat pump is the day it is installed.
