HVAC is an abbreviation for Heating, Ventilation and Air
Conditioning.
HVAC Contractors specialize in the installation and maintenance of furnaces,
boilers, heat pumps and central air conditioners.
However, in addition to installing and maintaining HVAC equipment,
HVAC contractors typically help consumers decide which equipment to
purchase. This makes the HVAC market somewhat different from the market
for other expensive consumer products. Consumers rarely begin their
search for a new car, for example, by hiring a car mechanic.
This difference makes it especially important that consumers
take two steps:
- Solicit bids from multiple HVAC contractors, so that you are
sure that you have been quoted a good price
- Understand the HVAC market so that the equipment you purchase
is appropriate for your needs
