"Not liking Munchkin right now"
We have a Munchkin boiler for heating our home and our water. First the fan caused problems - had at least 3 new fans before we finally had one that did not separate. Have had a new circuit board installed, then it worked well for several years. Now while we were out of town, something went wrong. Came home to hear the boiler trying to light, however it did not light. No code to determine what may be the problem. Our local plumbing company had been helpful - not so much this time. They cannot determine the problem and aren't very communicative with us. Ordered and installed a new circuit board and that did not fix the problem - so we have been without hot water and heat for the past two weeks. We live in an area where the lows have been in the 30'S. Snowed this past weekend - so we really need to either solve the problem or install a new boiler.

Review:
"Water dripping from Flame Probe port"
About three weeks ago, my Munchkin started making an explosion sound just about every time it tried to start. Then f9 would appear. I'd hit reset. Then usually another explosion, maybe a start, but eventually f9 again. I noticed water on the floor in front of the Munchkin. I took the case off and saw water dripping from the Flame Rectifier Probe port. I did a condensate flush, and the water stopped flowing from the Probe port, but still I got the F9s and explosions. I called Service, who called the Munchkin help line or rep and was on hold for a long time. Two days, $680 (labor), and a new spark plug later, the Munchkin was up and running again. The help line's theory was the spark was hitting the gas in the wrong place (too far back?) causing the explosions, and a new spark plug was the answer. For a week or so, no problems. Starting four days ago, the Munchkin starting shutting down and giving off F10s, about two a day. If I hit reset, the M restarted. Following the manual, I have cleaned the Flame Rectifier Probe at least four times (each time the Probe has a rust film on it). Thinking the Probe must be bad, I've ordered a new Rectified Probe but it is not here yet. Today, after two F10s, resets, and restarts, we heard an explosion. I went to the Munchkin to find it leaking water on the floor around the Munchkin. As before, it was coming from the Probe port. I have shut the M down and taken the Probe out and felt inside the port. It is wet in there. I'll do another condensate flush, put the Probe back in, and see what happens. Does anyone (calling Homer!) have a clue why water is building up in the Rectified Probe area? Does it mean there is a crack in the M case? Help, please.

Review:
"F09 - ANY SOLUTIONS?"
We installed this Munchkin in our new foam-block home 7 years ago. When it is installed properly and running properly, you can save substantial amounts of money on heating costs, as well as enjoy a comfortable even heat. However, in the past year, we have put a substantial amount of money into the Munchkin itself, replacing parts in hopes to discover exactly why it keeps malfunctioning. Currently, tonight, I sit in my 65 degree home, which has been without heat for approx. 18 hours and it is currently 20 degrees outside, so by morning - well, it won't be so cozy. My hvac professional (licensed owner) is completely stumped by a f09 code. We push the reset button, the flame ignites and the unit runs for approximately 15 minutes to a temp of 117-120. The flame then goes out and the unit tries to reignite, but of course after 3 attempts, f09 - errors out. If you try to reset it again immediately, it won't ignite. But if you wait a few minutes, it will ignite on the first try and repeat the same cycle. It has been 3 months since a thorough cleaning and a new flame sensor being installed. Today, we emptied the condensate drain and cleaned the flame sensor, but to no avail, I sit with my children on the coldest night of the winter without heat. This is the fourth time we have had to work through a trial and error method to fix our Munchkin within the year. However, in a 4200 square ft. home, we haven't filled our 1000 gallon propane tank since May 2011. We are rapidly loosing faith in the Munchkin brand, especially since tonight this is the only place I have been able to feel hope that someone would respond to this review with some insight to solving our problem with a long term solution. There is no website that offers any support, nor an 800 number for Customer Service that exists that I have found for these Munchkin boilers. And, at least where we reside, only a couple know and/ or understand the complete concept and mechanics of the boiler system. Since we made the investment and appreciate the ability this unit has to heat our home, we are open to any suggestions for a resolution to this problem. Unfortunately, if a solution is not found, a Munchkin is not what we will purchase ever again. Any guidance from those of you that are firm Munchkin believers would be greatly appreciated.

"Munchkin Service in Augusta Maine?"
I have a Munchkin T80 and have had occasional F09s but nothing like what I have read here. This site has made me determined to find a good service tech with experience with Munchkins. Can anyone make a recommendation? I live in Augusta Maine.

"Problems with fan motors"
I service 9 Munckin boilers The problems with the fan motors is the plastic fins in the fan housing come apart. I have found that it is not the boiler it is the installation manual. In the manual it tell you that the in take and the exuast must be no farther apart then 18 inch well that is wrong cause on a cold winter night with a down pressure the exaust want to hang around and the intake sucks it back in to the fan wrecking the plastic fan. I have just stuck a 4 foot piece of 3 inch PVC on to the intake so it suck in clean air. Problem solved

Review:
"Noisy"
The pros: we have saved on our energy bill when we replaced an ancient furnace with a Munchkin to heat 4 units in our 3 story Victorian. The cons: In addition to two repairs, one over $500, our 4 year old munchkin is very loud. Even when they temperatures go up, it seems to run constantly. The noise is obnoxious. Can anyone recommend a solution to silence this beast?

Review:
"Not overally impressed"
We built our new house in 2003 and were told by our mechanical contractor that they would like to try a new boiler line in our place. This boiler was the Munchkin 80M. Well in the first heating season we had nothing but grief and more grief. We had the professionals in to set up the proper air and gas pressure, theyu changed the regulators, I replaced all the parts that for the F09 fault and it still continued. Finally some one suggested replacing the burner gasket and that did it. This was a brand new machine and the burner gasket was gone within the first couple of months? So ok this unit now wasa pretty good till last heating season and our fan motor went. Again we got the parts and replaced it all. It worked good last heating season, but this heating season, all of a sudden my circulating pump runs 24 / 7'sa unless I go manually shut it off. So I am wondering if there is anyone that is having that kind of a problem and what the fix might be. Due to all the problems I have had with this boiler, I would not recommend it to any consumer.

Review:
"F14 fan overspeed"
New house construction. We moved in just 3 years ago. After several issues with the original installation and the heating contractor, it had been fine for nearly 2-1/2 years. Started giving F14 and E14 errors (fan overspeed). Heat Transfer says, "replace the blower". $700 for a blower, and maybe 30 minutes work. The blower appears to work fine, and when I reset the error, we get heat for a time, too, then another error. This blower is manufactured by "EBM Papst" in Germany. The speed sensor is a Hall Effect passive device. Theoretially, we should be able to replace the bad electronics for a few dollars, but Heat Transfer won't let us do that. Throw away a perfect good motor/fan, and replace it. I don't expect that they buy these for $700, so they really don't have any reason to fis the problem. If you can't make money selling boilers, you can make money fixing the old ones. . .
