"Same problems with Muchkin boiler"
First year, we were very happy with our radiant system. But since then we have been out thousands of dollars getting this thing fixed every year: 12/07 blower unit goes out, 12/09 fuel valve fails (not covered by warranty), 2/10 leaking boiler so unit needs to be replaced. This will come with a new gas valve but they won't cover the 1st gas valve because parts come with a 1 yr warranty and we have had to pay labor each time as well as for this new install. I can't believe that customers have to pay for labor. What would you do if you took your car into the dealer only to be told you need a new transmission, the manufacture will pay for the tranny and labor is not covered which is usually double or triple the cost of the part? We are a motorcycle dealer. If we could prorate warranty like furnace manufactures & charge labor, we and the manufacturer would be rich - or at least better off. I am going to call the State Agency for consumer affairs, although I will not hold my breath about getting anything done. We have also considered going to small claims. I just can't believe that we have had to talk to 4 different people. Labor is not covered, and spent hours on the phone and still don't have any heat. Good thing we live in California instead of Northwest Missouri or Washington, DC with their major snow storms!

Do not even consider buying a Munchkin boiler. Ours has never worked properly from day one. Our boiler shuts down flashing f09 daily. This has been going on for years. It started right after it was installed. We have had several people even the rep from the company out to work on it. They can not get it to work, and they will not take care of us and back their product! We are stuck with a $3000 unit that does not work.

Every year, it is getting worse. You cannot trust it. It is unreliable. It stops and gives faults in winter when you need it. For the last one month, I am having these f9 and f10 faults every day. They can't fix. I am fed up to the extent that I will replace it this year.

"Bad, Bad Boiler"
My Munchkin 80m boiler is a piece of shit. I am a general contractor and will never recommend this to any client ever. A couple of years ago, I had to replace the controller, circuit board, fan motor (because someone at the factory didn't tighten all the bolts) and now, in 2010, the unit has no power at all. Heat Transfer Products won't get back to me and the contractor who installed it in 2000 had disappeared.

Worst product I have ever purchased. Had professionally installed 5 years ago by a local Heating and AC firm and has not yet successfully functioned for any period in excess of 3 months. Several parts replaced multiple times. Several additions added to the circuitry. Techs are here constantly and are not knowledgeable. Learn as they go along. Unit continually shuts off in the middle of the night then will not re- ingnite (f09). Would be very interested in joining any class action law suits if available.

"Munchin F09 problem"
The Munchin hydronic system works well and is efficient when it works, but I have had intermittent problems with it not lighting up. The error code is f09. I finally took the chance to repair it myself after the service people are only able to fix it to last for a month or so. If you look at the manual, the f09 error explanation points you to the ignitor. It looks like a spark plug (my unit has one main one with 2 internal ignitor bars and one with only one internal bar). I cleaned off the outside connections with steel wool, which seems to work sometimes. When that doesn't fix it, I shut off the unit and remove the ignitor and clean off the ignitor bars with steel wool and push them a little closer together. I suppose that cleaning the ignitor bars and making sure they are close enough together helps the spark jump the gap and ignite the gas. This seems to be the fix. I hope this helps to save some frustrations and costs.

"F--- is what I say every morning."
I bought this Munchkin boiler with high anticipation. I have the same problems as others on this site. F-10 is my most common but I have had many. The thing just quits in the middle of the night and there is no pattern to the malfunctions so that I can identify the problem. It is as if this thing has a mind of its own. It just goes on strike at the most inopportune times. This Munchkin company keeps itself more secret than the CIA. There is no one to go to for help.

"Our Munchkin Headache"
When we built our house in 2003 we were told of this very compact high efficient boiler. Since the day we have moved in, the boiler has been nothing but a nightmare. Each winter, we have had difficulties with f9 and f10. We have had service people in to check out the system. This year, we are now having to replace the fan motor. We have had other units in other places that have worked for many more years than this unit has. I would not recommend this boiler to anyone, unless they make several improvements.

"NOTHING BUT TROUBLE"
We had a Munchkin professionally installed 2 years ago. Ran fine the first year, thougght the cost of monthly bills was still pretty high but worked well. Turned on the year and have had nothing but f09 problems. Had a tech come out and $2000 later I still wake up daily to f09 and no effing heat in my house. Reset, come home at lunch, same thing. Reset again, same thing after work. Yes the unit has been cleaned. Control board replaced (which it did not need), its not on the floor, combustion checked and reset to spec. Nothing changes the fact that it will not work worth a crap. Called and was working with the owner of Hot Water Products, the distributer and got no help what so ever. Invested $6000 in thier product, re mortgaged my house to pay for it and have already lost another $2000 in repair bills that have not fixed a thing. Of course the contractors wont stand behind thier work either so I get to take them all to court. Oehl Plumbing is a bunch of scamers. never buy a munchkin. Put a large sign in my front yard for all the world to see. No manufacturer help. Even Ford know they make a piece of crap but warranty longer and give help after that expires. No one hs been able to offer a solution yet. Every rec here has been done several times, by different techs. Piece of ......
