"Working 7 years and still going strong..."
I had our Munchkin t50 installed in 2005. The installer was a real pro and did a great job...kept inlet and exhaust vents far apart so the intake fan/blower doesn't pull in the acidic exhaust and fail, very clean and professional job (some other plumbers and contractors have commented on the good design and quality fittings/components he used). Initially we used the same installer for cleanings but it cost too much so I changed to another heating company and I have them come every other year to clean the leads and heat exchanger...they tell me it is pretty clean so I think it may not be necessary for annual cleanings in my case. The system works fine so far...provides adequate hot water (we also have a SuperStor Ultra 45 Gal HW heater for a family of 7...1900 sq ft home) and heat. Haven't had a component fail in 7 years...seems from one reviewer that installing these correctly and with adequate sizing/cleaning is critical...not to mention an honest installer.

Sam H. - You need to have the heat exchanger cleaned. If the flame rod and igniters are coated white it means that you have exhaust reversion. install a 90* elboe on the exhaust pipe and turn it up about 18 inches then install a 45* angle with a stainless steel screen in it. The boiler has to be tipped back just enough for the bubble of a level to touch the line, not past the line. Put the level on the front of the heat exchanger with everything assembled. do not put it on the front of the boiler jacket.

So the boiler is making loud noises - And your service man can't fix the problem. I would say the problem is not the boiler but your choice in a service man. He is not properly servicing the boiler and because of lack of service the boiler is letting you know that it doesn't like how it is set up. Call htp and find the local distributor, They will give you the name of someone qualified to service your boiler. I would say that the burner gasket is gone and the combustion settings are way off.

Hi - this proves just how good these boilers can be if they are even close to being installed properly. When you say concentric vented are you talking the inverted funnel type? If so can you remove the outer funnel and cut off the straight end? ( this will expose about 1 1/2 inches of the inner pipe) If you can do this then install an elbow then go up at least 18 inches and put a 45* elboe on the top with a stainless steel screen in it. You probably lost the 925 controller because of the exhaust gas reversion. The longer post purge is VERY important because it pushes the moist exhaust gasses out of the combustion chamber after the burner shuts off. If these gasses rise up and out of the burner air intake it will eventually damage the boiler. I reprogram all of the older boilers to the newest software version with the longer post purge. And NO you can't change that setting.

"BUSH's FAULT"
In politics it seems that every thing bad was Bush's fault. So now the crawl space flooded and it cost $2200 to fix the boiler because it got flooded and that was the boilers fault????? You either have a bad pressure switch or more than likely the system pressure is low and guess what - the boiler doesn't control what the water pressure is in the system - So I guess if the kitchen sink backs up it's the MUNCHKIN's fault. Some of the complainers on this site have sent me pictures of their installed boilers and I will tell you they would be good for a laugh if it wasn't such a sad thing. I am sorry that you got screwed but you did go with the low bidder or you didn't do your research.

Just for your information the blowers are not a munchkin part. Those same blowers are used in almost every high efficiency boiler and water heater on the market today. If you are losing blowers it is because your boiler is not installed properly. Do you complainers not read what has been written by the installers here??? I feel sorry for the people that have been screwed by their installer but it doesn't matter what boiler you had installed if another brand had been installed instead of the Munchkin you would have been complaining about that brand instead. Don't you people do any research before you let someone install an expensive boiler into your house???? Did you get more than one quote. Did you look at the install manual at all while or after the boiler was installed??? Does your system look anything like the pictures in the book??? I will bet not. It is very important that the exhaust pipe be at least 18 inches above the intake and the water piping must look exactly like one of the drawings in the install manual.( there are some variations but must be installed by an expert in hydronics)

Sheila - The ods is not a Munchkin part - other brands use the same sensor. Yes you can unhook the sensor wires at either end and put wire nuts on the wires. ( two ) But the boiler will run at maximum temperature. It is best to replace it. See if they will sell you a new sensor at their shop and if you can use a screwdriver you can change it yourself.

Alan - It sounds to me like a bad blower. Call other companies for their price. How is your boiler vented? Is it concentric vented - If it is then change it so there is at least 18 inches vertical separation between the intake and the exhaust pipes. Exhaust gas recirculation will destroy the blower and other components. Steve

I must have missed something - The Munchkin tech was out and told you that your boiler wasn't installed properly and it must be serious enough to shorten the life of your boiler and it is still a bad boiler?????? Doesn't COMMON sense say that the problem is NOT with the boiler but with the company that installed it. Those of you that post here need to read what those of us that try to help have written. Most of your problems would go away IF you would just do what has been suggested. I just went on another bad install on Monday - They also had constant expensive repairs. Major reversion. Still had the concentric vent termination and the cap was not installed properly. Third blower. Still need to reverse the water piping so that the water flows the right way through the boiler. (They didn't even have that right.)

"High Altitude Conversion"
Stay tuned doing a high altitude conversion to my 199m after a flawless 9 years of operation at 10,000 Feet I purchased the boiler over the internet intended for sea level operation pre set at the factory and installing the unit myslef no experience other following the instruction intallation manuel for the install. never had it tuned or cleaned or tilited 3/8 of an inch backwards to help it drain. I recieved an f-09 code after my mom crushed the garden hose of two feet to the drain and the unit flooded leaked from the front burner gasket indication its drain system was clogged. Odered new controller 926 board and display to make more efficent and for the dual sensoring of flame and the better program design, a 9 pin ribbon cable to accomodate the Hot igniter and of course having the the board reprogamed before delivery. Then talking with tech support HTP switching the location of the flame detector and ingniter for HA op's order new target wall and burner wall refrac. Doing the cleaning myself and tilting the unit and having a tech tune the unit I will follow up this post in one week. 4700 squre feet house minus 10F most of the winter Natural gas bill only $180.00 during winter for a bed and breakfast and using it to heat a Bac 80 gallon indirect tank for DHW looking for the new bill in January Cripple Creek Colorado 80813
