"Maintenance NIGHTMARE"
Almost like clockwork the boiler has problems twice a year costing nearly $500 each time. very poor quality and very poorly designed. This piece of equipment should never have been allowed to be on the market.

"Don't Buy!"
We have replaced the blower and the electronics on our unit. Now it looks like we will need to spend even more to fix the latest issue. Pretty soon, we will have spent as much on keeping it running as we did to purchase it. When I called Munchkin, I was told "you can have efficiency or reliability". Wonderful. All the money we save on efficiency we get to spend on replacement parts. Crummy product, crummy company.

"Hate this thing!"
I'm reading other posts and forgive me if I haven't read all 16 pages, but it sounds like a few of you really know what you are doing, so I would love some advice. The boiler was installed in 2007. The first year we had no problems, but every year since it has broken. Every time, the blue plate has been corroded. This time, the control panel is not getting electricity. Every plumber that comes out tells us that the intake and outtake vents are not correct, but when I look at the manual, it looks like it was installed exactly like the diagram "sidewall venting with concentric vent kit." Obviously this is not working the way it should, and I would like to tell the plumber who originally installed it that it wasn't installed correctly, but it looks like it was. But I see other people posting here that it is much better to have the vents separate, and at least 18" apart. Can anyone give me advice as to how to proceed with this? This thing is driving me crazy.

"Munchkin problems"
We purchased our house in 2007 and was initially impressed with the Munchkin. We've always had problems with the f09 error; I figured out how to take care of that problem. Now it's f10. I live in a small town where there are only a four people who know how to work on it. The first guy came out and did all the maintenance, $250. That night we still had f10 problems. He admitted he didn't know what to do and gave us a name of another business. That guy came out, said he fixed it, and gave me all the history on Munchkins and boilers, $250. Within an hour after he left, f10. I understand that there may be condensation. I have the third business coming out today.

"Unreliable Junk"
Purchased house 7 years ago and was impressed with the presents of the Munchkin boiler and a very well done installation. So much for looks. The plastic impeller of the blower failed within 2 months the first time and continued to disintegrate (had four replaced with the same type that continued to fail). After the first one failed, redid the vent (although the original installation was done exactly per the manufactures specification) so that under no circumstances could the exhaust feed back into the air intake. Plastic continued to fail. It's always interesting to hear "the problem is the installation" when dealing with a poorly engineered component. Finally, after 4 years of continued problems associated with the design, I called http directly (it also helped when I informed them I run a military failure analysis lab) and they sent me a new blower with a metal impeller which has continued to operate for 2 years without falling apart. However, now we have a sever vibration when the blower clears the boiler just prior to ignition, that is if it starts. We can not leave our home in the winter for any period longer than 24 hours, since we never know when or if the boiler will operate. And, yes, we have had all the service calls recommended (averaging 4 per year) by factor authorized repair companies and have spent about twice the cost of the unit on labor. I would have been money ahead to pitch the unit and replace it with something "more reliable"?

"Mr"
Do yourself a favor and do not buy any Munchkin products. My boiler is totally junk and needs to be replaced after only ten years of use.

"Buyer Beware"
I have radiant heat serviced by a Munchkin gas boiler. I have had it maintained faithfully, but last week, during a routine maintenance visit, the service person found a hole in the boiler. I had to have this fairly new unit replaced. The company did provide a new unit, as specified in the warranty, but I was left with a $2000 labor cost for reinstalling the unit. I contacted the company and they hid behind their legal warning that all labor costs must be born by the customer. I am not satisfied with the policy, and I am no longer happy with the craftsmanship of the Munchkin machine or the HTProducts service. I am here to say, "Buyer Beware!" I am.

"Beware"
To any one who wants a munchkin boiler -- stay away from them. I only use mine in the summer to heat my hot water and every spring when I fire it up (or should I say try to) it doesn't work. Apparently the people that installed it don't want to work on it either -- they never get back to me. The best thing to do with one of these is: don't buy one.

"Overpriced and Unreliable"
We have had our htp Munchkin 80m for just over 6 years now. It was very expensive to begin with, and I really was hopeful that the unit would provide many years of trouble free service with high efficiency. The unit is certainly efficient and has reduced our home heating bills considerably. However, the reliability has been awe full and this unit has turned into a very expensive lesson! To make matters worse, Heat transfer Products customer device is lousy and they certainly don't care about customer complaints. We have made several requests directly to htp for assistance, and we just keep getting passed to their distributor. Although the warranty covered us for the first few years, it is now out of warranty and having several service calls per year is getting expensive. To date we have had to replace the gas valve, air intake rubber sleeve, the control board and wiring harness. Still, we have f18 errors all the time and have to manually reset the unit 2 to 3x per week. If I had the money... I'd toss this thing out in a heartbeat and replace it with a simple low efficiency boiler. We are now spending close to $1000 year since the warranty lapsed on service/parts for this thing; which more than negates the savings we have achieved for it's high efficiency. To make matters worse, we also purchased a htp SuperStore indirect water heater. This has been replaced once (under warranty but we were on the hook for labor) as the unit developed a leak. Again, HTP's customer service was deplorable. I am very concentious and try to buy American made products whenever possible. With htp being based in ma, and employing local people to make these products - I find it a very sad state of affairs that htp doesn't seem to have any interest in how their products performs once they are out the factory door! *** Bottom line - stay away from htp and their products. I have learned my lesson the hard way. ***
