"Gas boiler problems"
Had a gb142 installed 3 1/2 years ago by a large plumbing and heating company that is an authorized Buderus installer. They failed to put in a propane nozzle as a result our house began filling with methane from the improper burn and my wife and I were saved only by our smoke and methane detector. I had to call Buderus tech support directly and inform the installer that he had not installed the propane nozzle. The relay box they installed failed twice. In December and January when the unit was working for about a month it kept shutting down. It took 4 or 5 service calls to get the water pressure set properly. 3 years later my once very quiet boiler is whistling like crazy, I have now spent $600 for cleaning and service calls and neither the plumbing and heating company nor Buderus in New Hampshire can figure out why this annoying whistling is ocurring. They raised the propane pressure, they cleaned the boiler, they ran a cleaner through the heating loop and they put in a "conditioner" to no avail. This is a usually very quiet and efficient system that seems to be very tempermental. The Buderus company seems to be selling these units to any heating and plumbing guy that comes along and not making sure that he has the training and expertise. I have called numerous companies and they all want to sell me a Buderus but none of them admit to knowing how to clean and maintain one. I asked Buderus for referalls and none of those led me to anyone with any expertise.

"GB142-not happy"
I am sitting here waiting for a service technician for the 4th or 5th time in 2 years after installing a Buderus GB-142. This is a high efficiency boiler that is way too finicky. I am sure I have spent any fuel savings on service calls for this boiler. And as some other reviewer mentioned we were surprised to find out after installation that we have to have yearly maintenance on this boiler whereas most gas fired boilers run maintenance free for years. We had an oil fired boiler for 20 years that didn't cause us nearly the problems. I would not recommend this boiler.

Review:
"Overcomplicated"
I had a boiler installed about 13 months ago. Other than an ignitor replacement, I haven't had any reliability problems with it. But it certainly was expensive, and I don't believe the added complexity for "efficiency" was worth the cost. It does adjust the temperature of the heating water based on the outside temperature. How it does that is adjustable, but very complicated to adjust. The bottom line is, if I were to do this all over again, I'd get a simpler boiler (read less "efficient" and cheaper) and use a digital thermostat to control the temperature in the house.
