A residential boiler's boiler rating or efficiency rating is typically measured by its
AFUE (Annual Fuel
Utilization Efficiency). Commercial boiler efficiency is often measured by
combustion efficiency
rather than AFUE. The "fleet efficiency" of a particular
brand is the average efficiency of all of the models sold under
that brandname.
Brands with the Highest Fleet Efficiency
Gas, Oil, LPG and Combination Boilers (Brands with more than 20 models)
- TRIANCO-HEATMAKER
- AXEMAN-ANDERSON CO
- VIESSMANN MANUFACTURING
- WEIL-MCLAIN
- LAARS
Gas, Oil, LPG and Combination Boilers (Brands with 20 or fewer models)
- MUNCHKIN (tied for first place)
- HAMILTON ENGINEERING (tied for first place)
- GLOWCORE
- THERMAL SOLUTIONS
- NEWMAC MFG.
Notes on Boiler Ratings
The "fleet efficiency" or "boiler rating" of a particular boiler brand indicates
nothing about boiler quality or boiler durability. In addition, although the fleet
efficiency of one brand might exceed that of another, this does not necessarily indicate
that any particular model of boiler marketed under the first brand out-performs
any particular model of boiler marketed under the second. To determine whether
one model outperforms another, simply compare the
AFUE of the two models.
