The Trane XL20i high-efficiency air conditioning unit offers up to 20 SEER performance. This model uses dual compressors to maximize efficiency by consistently operating with the smaller compressor and only using the larger component when the system detects a drastic change in temperature.
According to the manufacturer, the XL20i boasts consistent, quiet operation due to an adjustable fan motor and compressor sound insulator designed to minimize noise. Additional components, including galvanized steel cabinets, a rustproof basepan, zinc-coated fasteners and a powder-paint finish, contribute to the unit’s durability.
This series also is equipped with Trane's ComfortLink II system, which controls communication between components and can be used to automatically charge, configure and calibrate the unit.
This XL20i uses R410A refrigerant.

"Do Not Buy Trane, you will be sorry!"
Bought top of the line, expected it to actually work - never has. We get lots of communication errors, about 3-4 times per week the unit stops working temporarily due to those ongoing issues that nobody has been able to fix. Authorized dealer gave up and won't return my calls. Tried Trane directly but they do not care. Have also had 3 compressors and several controller boards replaced in the 2 years we've owned it. Meanwhile the 3 American Standard 15 year old units we have are chugging along with no problems. Do Not Buy Trane!!!!

"Happy With the Trane Ultra Efficient A/C"
I am pleased with this central air conditioning unit. The ultra efficiency XL20i is billed as a top-of-the-line unit and so far it lives up to expectations. We have had this cooling system for 2 summers. It is very quiet compared to our old unitâ€"so quiet in fact that we never hear the motor engage or know by listening alone whether it's on. The house, however, stays evenly cool. The best part is that indoor humidity is reduced with this model which for where we live (NJ) is a major plus. Efficiency is also important. Although this model cost more than our previous (adjusting, we'll say, for inflation) our utility bills are noticeably lower, which over the course of the five-six months (roughly) that the AC is used makes a significant difference. The model is fairly sleek and durable, less an eyesore than the big clunkers out there. So far we have not had any problems and I would definitely recommend it to a friend, however bear in mind this is a new system and problems at this stage would be unlikely.

"Can't stop this Trane XL20i"
Four years and never a problem. This A/C unit, XL20i, has been through allot in a short time. We've had several massive hail storms. One so bad that I had to get the roofing replaced. The A/C unit, while the case is dented, has never missed a beat. We've had temperatures over 100 for more than a month this year! No issues.

I purchased the Trane XL20i air conditioner a little over a year ago and so far I'm extremely pleased with the quality of this unit. It should be noted that the Trane XL20i is among the industry's most efficient air conditioners available for consumers. This unit is extremely affordable, and comes packed with a plethora of features. The XL20i features efficient performance and has two compressors (one for milder less harsh weather, and another for those extremely hot and humid days). This unit also offers quiet comfort meaning it offers a multi-stage fan motor that adjusts speed quietly to provide less noise. So far I'm extremely pleased with my purchase. I live in Ft. Lauderdale, fl and as most of you are aware it can get extremely hot down here so a quality central air unit is a must.

"Trane rocks"
Bought my Trane set-up 4 years ago. Its a highend system XL20i. We have a large home, over 4,500 sq ft with lots of windows. I was concerned that one a/c system wouldn't be enough. The Trane dealer assured me it was sized correctly and that my duct work was done correctly sized for the system. He was right, its worked like a charm. Summers are hot and this system work quietly and w/o any fuss. Our prior system(Rudd) died after 8 years and always struggled to keep the house cool. It was a great purchase and there's nothing else out there as good as this system, I investigated all the major brands.

"Trane XL20i"
I had an XL20i installed to replace the 22 yr. old Trane that was still working. Trane had a rebate and the tax rebate was $1500. So far, so good. The unit is very quiet and the humidity control is great! The dealer had a 10 yr. Parts & Labor warranty or I would have been reluctant to buy a highly technical unit. Houston in the summer can be brutal on your budget and body. Maybe this will help both!

XL20i Warranty
Consumers must register their product online or by calling 1-800-554-6413 within 60 days of installation. Trane's warranty coverage includes a:
12-year warranty on compressor;
10-year warranty on outdoor coil; and
10-year warranty on internal functional parts.
An option to purchase a transferable warranty and extended coverage through a Trane independent contractor also is available.
