"Service"
Have had problems with this thing every year and even bigger problems with get it fixed. Leaking freon has to be charged every year and of course there is a service call charge and cost of the freon. But leak never gets fixed. Service guy just left 10 days ago and here we sit with no air. My wife and I have just decided to find our own heating and air company to handle this unit and just forget about these so called Trane specialists. The warranty doesn't mean much if it's just going to keep sucking money out of us.

"Why is HEAT setting randomly blowing FRIGID air?"
Looks like I'm the only one who has a Trane Heating & Cooling system that decides to blows out crisp cold air, regardless of whether or not it's seat to heat! I tend to not like surprises with a heating cooling system; Whenever I set it to heat, sometimes it blows heat, then sometimes it will blow cold or at outside temperature! Tonight it's in the 30's! This means; Either I have to just turn it off, or stay up all night to make sure it consistently blows out heat before I wake up frozen! If it were summertime, I'd leave a more positive response, but I do not like cold air in the late fall and winter, especially when it's clearly set to heat! Of course, right now I'm somewhat unsatisfied. If only the summer air conditioning blew out air just as cold as the heat setting sometimes does in the winter! Yes, we rent the townhouse, but we purchased the actual Trane Air Conditioner for this unit!

"Trane XR-15"
This unit makes a very loud rattling noise when the compressor cycles off. The noise is in the outside unit under the fan blades. The sea coast technician says 75 percent of units makes this noise. The noise is unacceptable to me.

"Trane Wreck"
Installed Trane a/c in July 2009; in July 2011 the unit's blower failed. Called dealer who did not come until the following day -- a Saturday. Repairman said it was either the master control switch shorted out (a circuit board) or the fan itself. He said he did not have the part, but the Trane warehouse was in the city and not open over the weekend. They would try to get back to us on Monday. This is South Carolina in Mid July, temperature is 100+ -- and they can't keep a parts place open over the weekend. Really?

"Lots of maintenance on my Trane Air Conditioner"
I have owned my Trane XB14 air conditioner for approximately ten years. Although it does a fine job of keeping the house cool in the summer and warm in the winter, I have had to have an air conditioner repairman come and work on it three times in the past ten years. I do not really know if that is a lot of times or not for ten years, but I would like to have to call less often; typically it takes a few days of either freezing or sweltering to get someone to the house, and then it is expensive to get the repairs themselves done. Overall I am happy with the air conditioner, I just wish it broke down less often. I would probably not exclude this brand from shopping for a future air conditioner, but I wouldn't specifically shop for it either. Likewise, I wouldn't tell a friend that buying a Trane is a mistake, but at the same time I probably wouldn't recommend it either.

"Noisy Fan Motor"
I am a noise consultant called upon to try to solve a problem with a Trane unit (mentioned above) that is generating a pure tone sound in the 240Hz frequency band. I believe that it is hysterisis noise from the fan motor, but customer service at Trane and the local dealer appear clueless. I want to talk with an engineer, but no one returns our calls. If we don't get this resolved, I will have no choice but to delist Trane as an acceptable replacement unit in this condo community.

"Noisy Compressor"
I just had a TRANE XL16i central air conditioner replaced an old PAYNE air conditioner. Compared to PAYNE, the only noise generated from the air conditioner is the sound from the propeller. TRANE air conditioner is creating an annoying sound generated by the compressor. The problem with TRANE company is that they don't have a customer support but instead route to their distributor. Since my air conditioner was instealled by a certified air conditioner installer but not a TRANE distributor put me at a very uncomfortable situation. The TRANE air conditioner works wonderfully and the sound is not heard inside the house. But if the air conditioner is closed to a place of gathering, DO NOT buy a TRANE air conditioner.

"Bad compressor"
I had my system installed with my new house at the end of 2006 and less than 4 years later my a/c compressor is bad. Its under warranty but I'm gonna have to eat the labor cost. They also say that it is on backorder so who know when I will get it. I might end up changing the whole system. Was good while it worked.

"Poor Manufacture"
Purchased a Trane unit 5 years ago. The coil developed a leak. Was told that because of cheap manufacture using aluminum coils could not be repaired. The coil was covered under warranty but the labor wasn't. That was over $800. Dealers love Trane because they make a lot of money replacing coils. The servicemen who came to do the job said they did not like Trane.

"trane a/c condensers/ heat pumps outdoor"
After working on and installing a/c units, Trane uses a spine fin coil on the outdoor cond units too many times. The copper suction and liquid lines come in contact with the aluminum spine fin cond coil and crack the aluminun and next to impossible to repair.
