"2.5 ton w / larger blower unit"
Had a difficult custom job done on a my Cape home. Worked out extremely well. The Central Unit covers the 1900 square ft main house (We have an 2 story addition 900 sq ft that has a seperate ductless system). We basically got a blower designed for 3-4 ton units and dropped 9 supplies over 3 floors to achieve it. Even on the 103 degree day, the house stayed at 75 degrees. Basically, unless the unit actually breaks or isnt working, most problems are the result of poor design and installation. Not saying Rheem is better than other units, just that the units themselves are probably not the issue for most of the people here.

"16 Seer 2 Phase Prestige Gold Series"
My electric bill was reduced by 200 a month. The 2 Phase indoor and outdoor unit is the reason runs at 60% power unless you really turn down or up on the thermostat. You greatly tell the difference of the full power or reduced! I would certainly reccommend these units

"Early 90's unit runs like a champ!"
Bought a 2.5 ton unit as a scratch-n-dent back in ~1993 and had an HVAC buddy install it. Been running like a champ ever since and I've done absolutely squat to it other than pop the top, vacuum out any small leaves and debris, then hose it out from the inside out once/twice a year. Generally used for several days at a time, from mid June through mid September. May not be as efficient as newer models, or blow quite as cold as on day one, but the price was right and minimal maintenance even better. No knowledge of whether new Rheem units are as tight.

"most issues are workmanship"
I have a rheem ac that is 9 years old and running strong. It is a builders model unit, which are louder than a higher effiecent unit, which is common for all brands. I have been a hvac tech for 18 years, 90% of these reviews are workmanship issues that every brand will have from the installation company. When you pay more for a system, you are likely to get better workmanship, that's because most higher priced companies provide training to their people. If you bought cheap, no training, poor installation workmanship. Installers are practicing how to install a system at your house. This is a nationwide fact, no specific area. I have seen all brands and different workmanship, I favor no brand, most are ok as long as the company provides at least 100-150 hours of training.

"Worked well for me"
Our nh house was built in 1987. We've owned the house since 1991. Our Rheem High Efficiency split ac has worked flawlessly. Never have had a repair done to the unit. Three years ago, we started to experience evaporator coil ice up, possibly due to low r-22. This generally occurred under high humidity conditions. However, this year the evaporator pan has started leaking. Rather than simply replacing the evaporator coils, I will upgrade to a higher efficiency unit.

"RETIRED"
4 ton air/propane package unit, replaced both fan motors, a starting compastor. Added some freon 1 time. It's cooling now. It's 90 outside, 72 inside. The furnace part was not very good. It used too much gas. I got an outside hardy wood furnace 10 yrs ago to heat. I use the package unit to blow air through the hot water coil from the wood furnace. It works great. It is time to replace the 37 year old package unit. The case is rusting away. I am going to replace it with a Rheem package unit heat pump.

"I found Rheem to be very reliable"
11 years with a Rheem air conditioner and never the slightest problem. That's a perfect unit in my book.

"4 ton, 14 SEER"
Recently had to be recharged. Just 2 inexpensive repairs in the previous 12 years, 1 was under warranty. The heat recovery for domestic hw works well. I shut off the water heater in the summer.

Review:
"Cool in the Cape"
We bought a 1 yr old pool home several years ago, and never gave much thought to the central air conditioner, until summer hit. Turns out that the basic, builder model 2.5 ton Tempstar was just too small for our 1800+ sq ft 4 br home. It would run constantly when the temps outside exceeded 84 degrees, and on hot days, could never cool the house below 78-79 degrees even though the compressor was running 10-12 hrs a day non stop. In the hottest part of the afternoons, you could even expect to see the temp in the house increase a couple degrees eventhough the air never turned off. Of course, this resulted in huge electric bills, so we usually just opted to cool the house with fans in the windows except for the very hottest days. Last year, we finally saved enough money to install a new air conditioner, and went with a local Rheem dealer because of their budget friendly pricing and excellent warranty. The installers were very knowledgeable and helpful and helped us select a Rheem 15.5 seer 3.5 ton system that met our homes needs and our budget, and included some ductwork upgrades to handle the larger unit. The new unit cools our home effortlessly even on the hottest days, no matter what the thermostat setting, and runs just enough to maintain a consistent temperature throughout the house. It is energy efficient, we no longer fear opening the electric bill if we have been using the air a lot. It is also surprisingly quiet. Whereas the old unit sounded like a small lawn mower running from outside the house, if you are more than 20 feet away from this one, you actually have to stop and listen to tell if it is running, despite the fact that it is nearly twice the physical size of the old one. All in all our experience with Rheem has been better than expected. Our new central air conditioner has surpassed our expectations, and proven that you can still get value and efficiency at a budget price. I guess time will tell if the unit will be as good a performer through the years as it is now, but our Rheem dealer offers a 10 year warranty that covers all parts including compressor, air handler, and fan motors, and has been in business in our town for nearly 20 years with an excellent reputation, so we have peace of mind. Dave
