Lennox Air Conditioners

Lennox makes three different lines of air conditioners. All products have indoor and outdoor components. The indoor machine passes heat across a coil, then expels the heat through the outside element.
This is Lennox's least expensive line of air conditioner. It is also the noisiest, operating at 76 decibels.
The two models in this category are the 14ACX and the 13ACX. The numbers in the names correspond to the air conditioners' SEER: Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio. SEER is the ratio of cooling to energy input, so a higher value implies more efficient cooling.
The Elite Series air conditioners have intermediate prices. The three different Elite models have somewhat different specifications.
XC16 operates at 74 decibels and has a SEER rating of 17.2. This model uses two stages, one of which it engages only on especially hot days. This system decreases the use of power when not much cooling is necessary.
XC13 also operates at 74 decibels, and has the lowest SEER in the group: 15.5. XC14 is quieter -- 70 decibels -- due to a sound-dampening system. Its SEER is 16.2.
Dave Lennox Signature Collection
These air conditioners are quiet, energy efficient, and expensive.
The XC17 has a SEER of 18. It can easily be equipped with SunSource solar panels for use as a power source. It also works with an 'icomfort' digital thermostat, which can receive detailed programming to optimize the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit. The XC17 operates at 62 decibels, which makes it more than ten times quieter than most of the above models.
The XC21 has a SEER rating of 21 and a sound rating of 69 decibels. Like the XC16, it is a two-stage machine that engages secondary power only on especially hot days. Its other features are similar to the XC17's.
All of the above air conditioner models are compatible with Lennox's Humiditrol dehumidification system. (However, it is optimally paired with XC21.) This system can be installed in a duct, where it removes moisture from the air. The dehumidifying function can be useful for preventing mold and mildew, particularly in wet climates. Humiditrol can be controlled via thermostat, along with the air conditioner.
Care and Maintenance
It's important to keep leaves away from the installed Lennox air conditioner, and it is also always good to check its condition in the spring and summer as winter debris and new growth may interfere with optimal performance. When first using the system in warm weather, verify that temperatures are within the output ranges specified by the manual.
The Merit air conditioners come with a five-year warranty that for a fee can be extended to ten years. The elite models have a ten-year warranty for their compressors and a five year-warranty for the other components.
The Signature Collection models use relatively sturdier materials, both inside and outside. They come with 10-year warranties for their compressors and other components.
