"NO COOLANT!!"
I had my Goodman unit installed last fall, a 3 ton 13 seer gaspac. Ran the air for a couple of days but didn't really need it. Heat worked great. Started up the air a few days ago and noticed it wasn't cooling, went out to check it and it wasn't condensing. Called the installer, he confirmed that I had registered it online, so it's under warranty. He put pressure gauges on it and discovered no coolant! Huh! Registration card says it was pressure checked. He added some coolant, and did a pressure check for leaks, (very thorough) no leaks. Well he got me running again, but he called me and told me that Goodman will not guarantee freon! So if it comes out of the factory without freon, you're on your own. Goodman was very emphatic about their units not leaving the factory without coolant, and being pressure checked. So buyer beware, If it's installed without coolant you will have trouble with Goodman!

"My New Air Conditioner Is Not What I Expected."
I have owned my new air conditioner for approximately two months. I got the new air conditioner to replace a 15-year-old model that was no longer cooling my house efficiently. Some rooms would be cool, others wouldn'T. Since I live in the desert, I must have a reliable air conditioner. Temperatures here reach 100+ almost every day during the summer months. Once the air conditioner was installed, I was impressed by how quiet it was, and how quiet the outdoor compressor was. I was also impressed that the air conditioner had two fans--a regular one, and one that kicked into high speed when necessary. I also liked the new thermostat. I liked the fact that it was supposed to be energy-efficient, so it was supposed to lower my electric bill. That remains to be seen. However, I can't say that I was overwhelmed with how wonderful it was. I was expecting a huge change from my old air conditioner. Imagine how disappointed I was when it really couldn't cool down the house during periods of time this summer when temperatures reached 100+ outside. And the high fan just ran and ran and ran--it never went down to the lower speed, or turned off. The rooms that I wanted to cool down were not really cooled any better by the new air conditioner. Now I have freezing cold rooms, and warm rooms. The company that sold me the unit, of course, said that their air conditioner would take care of all of my cooling issues. Now they are saying that since I have an older home, NO air conditioner will cool the house well. They say my windows are old-fashioned, that the venting in the house is poor, etc. They also say that NO home can be cooled down during high outdoor temperatures. That's a lie, of course. Of course the salesman who sold me the unit never mentioned ANY of these issues during his inspection of my house. I had to have the company out to repair the unit almost immediately, even though it was less than one month old. Condensation was leaking out and dripping from the run-off pipe right onto the floor. The unit was hot to the touch, and was blowing hot air into my living room!! Dampers that were installed into my ceiling registers were cheap plastic, and one broke within hours of installation because it wasn't installed properly. Only two registers received dampers--the others were left without one. Since the unit was blowing hot air into the living room, it was heating up the thermostat, which then reflected inaccurate temperatures. I had the technicians order replacement dampers, and extra dampers for other registers. It is two weeks later, and no one from the company has showed up or followed through with a phone call. I wouldn't buy this brand of air conditioner again, although I suspect some of the problems were because of poor installation, and because I was sold a unit that was wrong for my home. I believe now that the salesman who sold us the unit was more interested in making money than selling me the type of unit that would really work in my house. No surprise that a salesman would lie, though! The unit was fairly expensive--$11,000. I have a very small house--less than 1500 square feet. This air conditioner should be blowing my socks off, literally!!

Review:
"Drippy"
My problem with my Goodman Aruf18241ba unit is that the drip pan is too small for the air handler coil. Every couple of weeks it starts to drip because the water can't travel down the sides of the coil due to there being no space, and gook clogs the flow too easily. If there were more than a 1mm gap between the coil and the edge of the pan, for the water to flow, it wouldn't be a problem. Other than that the unit works just fine. Can I get a bigger drip pan for the unit so I don't have to open it to scrape the sides every other week?

"Defects in workmanship"
After only one week, a piece of insulation inside the evaporator fell off and blocked air flow, the installer fixed at no charge. Now after 4 years of light use (second home, unit runs for about 2 days a week for 6 months)it developed a leak around the solder connection to the high side of the compressor. Goodman would not pay for the repair of the leak nor the r22 even though it is a defect in workmanship. Repair cost $465. Neither one of these failures can be blamed on the installing technician, specially since this is a packaged unit and defects came from the factory.

"Noisey unit"
Just installed a new Goodman furnace and air conditioner. This is a home without a basement. Have lived here 20 years with a furnace before this one. This one seem very noisy. Is there anything that we can have the contractor do to quiet it down. The old one was not this noisy.

"Leaks freon"
Began leaking freon a year after installation. When charged, however, cools great in summer and furnace is very good. Outside unit is fairly quiet. I've read a lot of reviews here stating same freon leak problem. I don't think a leaking evaporator coil is an installer problem as a few have suggested. The coil is not installed by a contractor when buying a complete HVAC unit like I did.

"32 Months Old"
My new home came with a gsc14 Goodman a/ unit in Jan 2008. It worked fine for 32 months. The contractor came out two weeks ago, said the coil was leaking. They don't make that coil anymore. Contractor installed the newly designed coil on Wednesday 9-1-10. On 9-4-10 no more cool air. Called a service technician on Labor Day Weekend (ouch). Technician says new coil is leaking. Added r-22 and say I need a new a/c unit. Don't know where to go from here.

Review:
"An exhausting piece of equipment!"
The only reason I didn't give this unit a "very unsatisfied" rating is because we managed to squeeze 15 years out of it. However it was 15 years of begging, cojoling, praying and fixing it over and over and over and over and over (you get the point) again. From the time it was about 3-4 years old, it began freezing up and losing freon. The guy who installed it when the house was built became sick of it, but came quickly each time he was called. This was a heat pump and not to be outdone, not only did the a/c act up constantly, so did the heat. It was constantly blowing something (except hot/cold air) including a capicitor that blew black oil out of my vents and fill the house with smoke. It would freeze up so bad, it would flood underneath the unit and soak the surrounding carpet. (ripping up carpet and putting in tile fixed that at least). This thing wouldn't even just freeze up in the heat of summer. Imagine me, in early spring, 8 mos pregnant underneath the blasted thing trying to defrost it (my husband doesn't fit under there, but I did put a dent in the drywall with my belly trying to get out!) We probably could have paid for a new unit at least once or more with all the money we sunk into this thing! Finally after fixing it 4 times this summer, we have replaced it with a Payne. Can't say much about that unit yet as it has been installed less than a week, but I pray it behaves better than the old piece of junk.

"Dissapointed Owner"
I have a Goodman furnace and central air installed in the fall of 2007. The units have performed very well with the exception of the condenser charging ports that were defective. My condenser leaked most of the freon out apparently over the winter. I had a Goodman authorized service company come out to investigate. i was informed that there had been a recall on the service ports (was not notified) but...the allowance from Goodman to submit a claim had expired. I have since been offered the valves, but it does me no good since I had to pay for their replacement and had to pay for a evac and recharge, something Goodman will not cover. The bill is several hundred dollars, that I paid, for their defective (recalled)parts.

"One n Done"
Was talked into a Goodman by a friend of a friend who's in the a/c business. My guess now is that he got some kickback from Goodman. The unit has mostly been fine, but we've had far too many small repairs in the past 6 years, and now with another larger repair looming are switching to Rheem. FYI. Most of the companies that have enjoyed getting to repair our system have told us it's junk.
