"replace evap coil 3x at a cost we cannot afford"
This is costing us money we do not have we are in our 76 yr.old and a small pension.we spent 1,684.68 on evap coil leaking out freon.YOU Need to fix this problem once and for all. My daughter has a Trane for 9 yrs and never had to call for a problem. One would think you people would have fixed this problem with your coils. I am not happy with your product. This is our 3rd time to replace the coil.

"Pathetic Service"
I am a Carrier and Thermo King certified technician for transit applications. The Goodman condensing and air handler units are pretty much, technically, generic. Where they fail is in customer service. I have been trying, unsuccessfully, for three weeks to purchase a control panel and transformer for the above mentioned unit. According to three of their distributors, the model and serial numbers I give them are not valid??? Still no parts!! John

"Goodman AC"
I have a 2002 Goodman system that has had minimal problems. In the last five years, I have only replaced the capacitor at a cost of $125.00. It's so true about the install. Some contractors think Goodman is junk and install it in a shoddy way.

"Warranty NO GOOD!!!"
The "a" coil on my Goodman ac is less than 10 yrs old & my paperwork shows a 10 yr warranty ... Spoke with a Goodman Consumer Affairs person and they will not honor their warranty on my ac unit. I would never, ever consider buying another Goodman product; further I would not recommend that anyone buy one of their units! They will not stand behind their products, and they will not last.

"Bad unit"
Purchased a home almost 4 years ago, bought our Goodman unit brand new. First winter the heat pump went out, first summer the outside unit froze up and the compressor went out, last summer the mother board went out and this year the outside unit is out again. Lennox units are not good either but I would get one of those over another Goodman unit. I am calling Goodman to let them know the whole unit should be replaced they are crap. You would be better off getting window units.

"Not having good luck."
Replaced 30 year unit with this model. Since then it has broken down several times. I use it only in summer months from Late May- Sept here in desert. I have it serviced yearly. Since new they always seem to add freon. Now it blows warm air and shut down. I must call repair company again. I wish I still had the old one. This will be second repair. Next time I need a new a/c I will do my research and first read reviews.

"Goodman 14 Seer Air Conditioner Review"
I bought central heat and air this past spring after pretty much analyzing everything I could find out through this site. Goodman was touted as the Hyundai of central air units. It worked great this past summer, but this was only one summer and only time will tell. I did read a lot about having a certified company to install the system and I also bought the heat system to complement the air. Haing a certified company was and is probably the right thing to do to make sure it is installed correctly. So far, so good for Goodman.

"Never a Problem"
Hi. We had our Goodman AC unit with oil furnace installed in 2004 in our new house. We never had any problems at all with it. With the price of oil sky high, I'm getting a Goodman heat pump installed in 2 weeks. If you get it sized and installed properly, I think you will be happy with their products.

Adding freon every year is not good. Can't find leak. Installer serviceman added freon two years in a row, then won't answer phone. Warranty is running out, just like Goodman installer. How do I sue for a new unit? I am a retired installer and serviceman and will never recommend this unit. Cities should not allow installations of this unit.

"People Do Not Understand"
Well I'm going to write a quick response not that the unsatisfied people will listen to but here it is. If you negative people read the good posts, you will see that just like the other technicians have said "installation is the most important part" this is 100% true. I've installed many Goodman/Amana units and have never had a call back. It's just like taking your car to a shade tree mechanic and he does half way work. This is what happens when you wanna save a dollar and hire someone to do it at the cheapest price. So when you need to replace your HVAC system, don't cut corners by saving a dollar. Your system is one of the most crucial parts of your home next to the structure. Make sure you have a heat load performed to ensure proper size. Ask your installer how low he pulled a vacuum to. I make sure I can at least get to 500 microns, this will tell you there are no leaks and you have all moisture out because moisture will kill a compressor in a heartbeat. Make sure the size of your ductwork and suggest modifications if needed because airflow is also very important. It's like, you're running 5 miles with only one nostril open. So people, do a little research and do not bad mouth a system manufacturer until you check into your installer because most companies only care about your signed check. Trust me, I've been there and seen how companies will treat the gullible homeowner. I've replaced more Trane units than I have Goodmans and usually when I replace a Goodman, it's because it's 20+ years old.

"Goodman Builts Trash Electronics"
Goodman 18.3 seer 2 stage compressor failed after only 2 years old. Extremely disappointing. It has nothing to do with the scroll compressor or the fin coils, it has to do with their trash electronics simply failing to work. The card code 4 green flashes along with 4 yellow flashes only shows the system does not have proper configuration and will not operate. The technician said, the card is bad after only two years. There is no warranty on this card and it is very expensive. It failed in the worse time of the year in Texas.

We put in many Goodman heat pumps with very little problems in Central Florida. We also install other brands, fact is they are machines, they will break down doesn't matter what brand. That's why manufacturers offer extended warranties which will cover parts and labor. Recommend them on any new system best will cover for 10 years parts and labor. Doesn't matter what system it's going to last 10 years average life span in Florida is 10 to 12 years may be the contractors should have offered them.

"Problems and More Problems"
Decided to update my reliable but inefficient A/C and heater in 2009. Had Goodman A/C installed professionally by Goodman dealer. End of year one, no freon, system was dry attributed to leak at shredder valve connection. Year two, no freon again, tech thought there may be a leak in the coil, but could not find it. Recharged system again. Year three, no freon, tech found leak in coil, replaced coil but would not replace the entire unit despite my concerns that the leaks had probably damaged the compressor. Year four, compressor dead, replaced compressor under warranty. One month later, unit won't cool. Waiting for service as I write this. Not at all warm and fuzzy on the Goodman products at the moment. Going to press for a fully replacement of the unit, preferably for equipment from another manufacturer. Probably going to add legal expenses to the experience, but enough is enough! Consider the consistent coil leak and compressor failures in the other reviews when making your decision!

"Educate Yourselves!"
I have an A/C license but am long-retired. I decided to replace my 50 year old home systems 2 1/2 years ago. I spent a lot of time evaluating the work of local contractors before settling on a 60 year old company in our city. I had certain requirements for components and Goodman met them all at the lowest price, even including a 10 year parts and labor warranty. The installation tech. did an excellent job and we enjoyed discussing specific details of brazing technique, TXV function, etc. The systems have functioned very well and are much quieter than a friend's 10 year old Goodman. Incidentally, that one was properly installed and has required no repairs. Bottom line: As many others have said, the quality of the installation is the determining factor governing how reliable a system will be. Period! There is only one right way to do the job. Educate yourselves before purchasing or you are very likely to be cheated. Talk to friends, neighbors, etc. Check with the BBB!!!! If there are a lot of complaints about a company, run away! Meet the installers if you can, not just some slick sales people! Protect yourselves and you will be happy with the equipment. I will say though that some systems are better than others from the standpoint of ease of repair or component replacement. American Standard comes to mind, but the cost for that convenience is high and certainly wasn't worth it for me.

"Worst Purchase Ever... Consider Yourself Warned"
Worst Purchase Ever... Consider Yourself Warned I have read several reviews on Goodman systems and everyone complains about it going out 4 or 5 times. Mine has too, in the last 2 months. I have honestly lost count of the number of times it has been repaired and we have had it for 3.5 years. It has literally been out of service more than in service lately. It has a new coil, compressor and 2 or 3 motors and today it's broken again. It has leaked and clogged and pretty much everything you can think of. It is an absolute joke. I only pray I don't destroy it in a fit of rage and void my "warranty"(if it can be called that).

Brand new home, built in 2011 with a Goodman AC unit and it has been nothing short of a nightmare. Since moving in the unit has gone out 4 times now, and just went out again today. It's hot and this Goodman AC unit is certainly not the system I would recommend for any location. Simply put: unreliable, expensive to repair and a waste of money.

I had a Sears A/C system that had been installed by my brother and a few of his friends to save money 27 years ago. It never worked correctly. It would run continuously and not keep up with the heat rising. I purchased a Goodman furnace and A/C unit as my furnace was also 27 years old. I will say I am quite happy. The unit quickly cools down and my utility bills are not out of sight. When the professional installer saw the way the old unit was installed, he just shook his head. I am sold that the results are in the professional install.

You cannot have a unit more the 10 years and having one should be considered lucky. There is a problem out there with the consumer accepting these cheap Chinese made products...

I'm up for a class action lawsuit if there are any lawyers out there! I hate these units, the only guarantee they have is that they will break every year. I have installed 20 or so Goodman units (commercial/residential) in the last few years and would strongly recommend to anyone, choose a different brand! I've worked with every brand of hvac equipment and by far, have had the highest ratio of units requiring service calls on "new" units from Goodman. They are junk. The quality control from the manufacturer is horrible. If I had to explain the repairs I've had to do on new equipment, this review would take you hours to read. Don't let their fancy warranty impress you, or their cheaper price tag. Buy anything else and get a professional installer. Trust somebody in this trade and save writing your own review

If you have high vibration the tech who repairs your a/c should have noticed this. Blade, blade, blade. Remove and replace. While you are at it change the motor. I have not seen any problems with reversing valve, all the companies use the same one. I'm very sorry you're having problems -- it's not the reversing valve, it's the vibration. Call goodman ask for a company that deals with them (good care). Fix the vibration. This time it was the tech. If you have high vibration and do not fix it it will keep doing the same thing. It's like having a hole in the bucket and keep adding water. NOTE: If the king caps are not very tight they will leak freon. I do not work for Goodman.

We built a brand new home in 2005, our local home improvement place talked us into purchasing a goodman. We purchased an 8 ton unit off of them, during the 7 year period that we have owned this piece of equipment we have replaced the compressor 5 times, like previously mentioned in someone's post we have had trouble with the ten year warranty. Each time we have replaced the compressor we have had to pay for the labor and the freon. Last summer it cost us over 750.00 to get it fixed. This is absolutely retarded...we paid thousands for this unit expecting it to last for years and it is junk...I Don't care what these guys said that it is not junk . They obviously don't own one.....well guess what it just went out again...this is crazy period...you suck goodman. When the warranty is up so is goodman.

"Worst Piece of Garbage"
We purchased a Goodman outdoor air conditioner in August 2008, If memory serves me right that fall was very cool, so we only used it a dozen times. The following spring, a capacitor needed to be replaced (under warranty). The following spring, a capacitor, freon, and the main compressor needed to be replaced (the parts were under warranty, but I had a $500 bill for labour.) The following spring, it again did not work, the freon was completely gone, another $400 bill. That august, it stopped working again, the capacitor needed to be replaced, and the freon was again low. This spring, it again stopped working, will not cool. We are going to now replace a 3 year old air conditioner as I cannot continue repairing this unit. totally disgusting service.

I had my home built in 2005 and with it came this product upstairs. I've had freon add 4 times out of the 7 years I've been here. It seems like Goodman is preying on its customers. If they refuse to recall this product, they meant for this to happen to cash in on coil resale. Terrible terrible buisness. This product should be recalled or class action. I've paid 69.95 diagnostic + 58.00 freon for 4 years, now I have to pay 624.00 for the fix. It's rediculas. I mean I dont know if it's goodman or goodman helping the installation guys because they have reaped the rewards as well. I know that I not the only one paying 130.00 a year for freon. And is the freon leak a hazard? That's what we need to concentrate on.

"Inefficient and leaking after 3 years"
I have two in my house. During the cold winter, upstairs unit never had any problems but the downstair unit always stopped heating when it felt like. Repairman always came, cleared a sooted up thing where the vacuum hose went. It kept doign this every winter. Repairman said it is not supposed to clog, but it does. Cooling worked well the first year then the upstair unit started loosing coolant. Repairman came and charged it. After the second year both had to be recharged. The 3rd year, they found out that both cooling coils were leaking coolant and had to be replaced. Hundreds of dollars later, makes you wonder why a cooling unit that is immobile without moving parts would leak from a weld/solder deep inside of it, on both units?

"Great looking and running unit."
My Goodman has been great so far. It replaced a 22 year old Bryant unit. That in the last 5 years of having it, needed to be repaired twice and only put out 70 at the register. Great unit to last that long. I wanted a 3 ton unit, but my contractor said go with 2.5 as 3 ton was too big. So I got the 2.5, 13 seer. I thought $3000 was a good deal for the unit, pad, 7k heater coil, other things and installed. My house is right under 1400sq ft, so he was probably right. Now my air is 54 at the register. Boy has my power bill dropped. Registered online with Goodman, so my 10 year warranty is good to go. Unit still looks brand new. Now I'm scared of copper thieves.

"Couldn't imagine a worse unit"
Lets start before the unit was installed to just paint the picture here. In 2001 my wife had a kidney/pancreas transplant. Her health has never been strong since that time. I'm glad she's alive but, she can't take a lot of abuse. So, about five years ago the Trane ac compressor quit. It was 12 years old. Nothing runs like a trane, except a Yugo. It was replaced by a professional with a Goodman. The Goodman has never run for more than three months at a time without a major repair. Even when brand new it was eating contactors which were burning out the transformers. We have gone through a pile of those. Even on it's best day it couldn't cool the house down on a hot day. Last year the compressor was seized and the HVAC guy "unfroze" it which lasted less than three months, at which time we just toughed it out till fall. Now summer is coming on hot already and we have no air. To top it off I find out that the installer charged me about $900.00 more than it should have cost. My new HVAC guy says that the unit is the proper size and should be able to cool. He's not impressed either. I spent way more cash than I needed to for a unit that simply doesn't work and never worked as it should. Goodman and the installer should be ashamed for screwing people who need reliable AC for health conditions. The love of money is the root of all evil, or so the book says.

I have had a Goodman for years and believe it or not work on hundreds of Goodman systems. I have read up to 100 of these reviews, and I can tell you that 90% of these bad reviews are not from equipment itself, it is the lack of education and skills of the people who install the systems, and undereducated sales people. Unfortunately Goodman equipment is less expensive compared to the other major manufactures, so it makes it easier for fly by night companies to purchase and sell. Tips: Always ask for extended labor warranties, Goodman has the best warranties over any manufacturers. Make sure that the company that is installing the unit has a good reputation and takes their time. Thank you for reading my review.

"BEWARE!!!"
We had the Goodman GSH130241A until installed after our other was hit by lighting. Less than a year after it was installed the unit froze over and the ac company that did the insurance install said the coil was leaking so they replaced them. Since it was less than a year from the install there was no out of pocket for us. Then just 26 months later same issue again however this time we were our over $400 because it was over a year since the coils were replaced. Called and emailed Goodman and was asked to send in all my receipts and they would review it for reimbursement. I then filed a complaint with the Florida Department of Consumer Affairs and they also opened a case and followed up. I then received a letter from FDCA stating that Goodman was going to follow up with a resolution and to work with them. Goodman's resolution was an offer of $148 and wanted us to sign a release letter not holding them liable...right. Then, just a few months later the same thing again. Coils leaking...so here we are now with a Goodman representative and the installers technicians at our house. This is still ongoing not sure what the resolution is going to be but at this point...stay far, far away from this company if you want a reliable ac unit!!!!

"Worst A/C Unit and Company that Installed horrible"
I purchased my Goodman a/c unit 5 years ago from American Air and Heat. Worst mistake ever. If you are looking right now do your research don't make my mistake. I thought I was spending money and getting piece of mind but my choice to use American Air and Heat and choosing a Goodman was not piece of mind I don't know if it is like most people are saying the installation of the product or the product. All I know I have had nothing but problems and spending money I don't have to replace parts that a 5 year old a/c unit should not be needing to be replaced. Since I've had it I have replaced a heat kit, a fuse (which was because of negligence on American Air and Heats part), pounds and pounds of refrigerant over the years which I have been told should not be happening and now the newest thing is a coil needs to be replaced because I am leaking refrigerant. Since I am fed up I will not be replacing the coil I will be saving my money to pull this piece of crap out of my house and replacing with a new unit and using a better company. And by the way I am still under warranty but not only have I still spend hundreds of dollars now American Air and Heat is telling me this coil will still cost almost $700 a complete and utter rip off if you ask me!!! Also, please do not ever use American Air and Heat not only can they not keep technicians they can't keep managers and they are late for appointments or when you are scheduled they don't put you in their computer. I have wasted money and days off of work because of this company so take my advice and go elsewhere. I thought they were a reputable company but boy was I wrong. So maybe the product isn't the problem it could be like other reviewers are saying the installers but I can't take the chance as far as my wallet says right now I have a lemon!!!! Can we have a lemon law for a/c units?!! My next step is definitely the Better Business Bureau.

"Horrible Air Conditioner"
I have had issues with this unit since the first day of installation. Immediately after installing, I noticed the airflow was very low and couldn't cool the area that my 35 year old air conditioner could cool in no time. The unit would stay on all day and couldn't cool the area to 78 degrees on a day when it was over 100 degrees which all my other a/c units do with no problem. The compressor died 3 days after installing and I'm on my 3rd condenser fan motor. When you call the manufacturer they give you a hard time and say they'll only talk to you if you're a technician. Be very careful of buying this unit even though the warranty is good, the equipment is poor quality with horrible customer service.

"NEVER AGAIN A GOODMAN"
Purchase a Goodman 2.5 ton unit on the recommendations of our local ac provider and never again. Almost since day 1 we have continuous problems, anywhere from being extremely loud, (they just are), inefficient, coil condenser replaced, freezes up and they put a hair dryer unit to prevent it from freezing, leaks freon and all this in between the 2 times a year we pay to have the unit routinely inspected. Goodman gives a one year labor warranty and 10 year parts - but the labor now is actually more than the parts so it is an extremely expensive proposition. And a word to Unhappy in Dallas - we wrote the company several times -via mail and us mail, and we were told sometimes people get lemon units - guess it was just our luck - and basically too bad. They would not back up their unit in any form, shape or manner after the one year labor was over - tough luck for us. Never again - at 3 years we are actually thinking of dumping the unit - even in a recession, and going with another unit preferably York or Trane.

The a/c man was here again this morning (unit is 1 week old) and says that there is nothing and suggested it was an insulation issue. I never had an "insulation problem" with my Amana. I purchased my home almost 2 years ago (in the fall) I was excited that the ac unit was only 7 years old, but I came to feel quite differently once summer rolled around. For any of you who have lived in Kansas in the summer, July and August are particularly brutal -- especially this summer where we have experienced temps in the triple digits for weeks now. My ac has been woefully inadequate and in fact I just installed a window unit to help my ac function properly. I realize that this is a less expensive choice, but (as is true in most cases) you get what you pay for. If you have the resources I highly suggest purchasing a more powerful and reputable unit. You will definitely thank your lucky stars when the hot summer months roll around!

All of the units listed have parts that are made in other countries. With that said Goodman and Amanna are the same unit. Made in the same place at the same time Just as American Standard and Trane are the same! So why different ratings? Area in which they are installed and the brands that the contractors install. The contrator installing must be qualified to install any brand. If there a good company they wont have as many problems as the units are being installed corectly! Leaks come from poor welding. and are many times blamed on coils etc as the tech is not trained to find the real leak!!!

"AFTER 4 years Goodman came thru"
Our nightmare began end of October 2007 - problems with extremely loud start up from the beginning. Within 2 years the compressor was replaced then one part after the other until second repair company (first went out of business) told us they could not fix it, this was 6 months ago. Called Southern Comfort of Webster Florida and they sent Fred Green out. The coil was replaced as well as many minor problems - it would run for awhile and do the same thing again - losing freon. This is a long saga and I am trying to shorten it. Fred was tenacious in testing everything to find the problem, kept telling us Goodman was a good product & he had never seen anything like this before - had to be an answer. He already knew, I suspect, it was the original install & later incompetence of the second company. Yes we had complained to Goodman BUT they had no record of all the replacement parts - I thought they were lying. This last outage Mr Green threw up his hands - contacted the go to guy with Goodman WHO being a very resourceful guy contacted our insurance and found that yes indeed the second company had turned in dozens of labor costs for our unit (we never went 6 months without a repair). This cost us lost work, miserable cold nights in winter and horrid temps in summer. The inconvenience was miserable and no one cared. Also the wrong refrigerant was put in once. Had Mr Green not been so through we would have had to buy a new unit, when this one was deficient from the get go & not even 4 years old. Being low on freon probably caused the compressor to go & maybe other problems. The nerve wracking gun shot sound when unit started up reminded us every time the huge mistake we had made - oh and the power bills _this is a 14 seer _ were no better than our much lower seer. Happy ending was that the guy called Goodman with his research into our system and within 20 minutes Goodman said to put in a new unit. It is happily and quietly purring along now - not running all the time and cooling great. As I have read on many postings about Goodman from the pros - I cannot stress enough - GET CERTIFIED SKILLED TECHNICIANS to install your system -ask for their membership cards - just because the owner of the place is certified DOES NOT mean his workers are and they will ALL tell you they are certified to work on your system. I think only 3 companies make all the systems on the market - I read everything I could find online about air conditioners and EVERY PRO said "it is the quality of your installer and techs" BELIEVE IT!

I've never owned a Goodman unit , but I'm still able to comment how ever I want ........DUH........ How many of the comments are coming from dealers of other brands ? Price wise , and warranty wise , they have the others beat hands down . I've looked at everything on the market pretty much . Looks like it's gonna be Goodman for me . By the way , I don't sell or service HVAC products . Heck , I could buy two of them for the price of one of the other name brand units . And with a ten year warranty how can you loose ? Besides that , they all use the same brand of compressors .

"HATE IT /TOO NOISY"
I have this unit over a year now and I hated this unit. I don't know why my a/c guy recommended this. The unit is RIDICULOUSLY NOISY. Had to call him several times, ended up putting a padding underneath, despite that still annoyingly noisy. If I have the money, I will replace this with TRANE. I will not get this brand again. HATE THIS GOODMAN A/C!!!!!!

"Leaking Coil"
My coil starterd leaking this year and the contractor I called informed me that he is replacing at least 3 per week. He said Goodman was aware of the problem and even though they are failing at such a high rate they have no desire to help the homeowner with the cost to replace it ot the R-22. Cheap is Cheap

"Central Air Conditioner"
I had this Unit for about a year now. I like that this unit is better than the last one I had. I dislike the electric bill, but its being to be far for my uses. This unit is brand new. I think I would go with a different brand, like Trans, I here thats the best model brand new out their. Not knowing if thats a fact or not. Or, I may let someone who is qualified give me some recommendations.

"Reliable Air Conditioner"
I have owned a Goodman central AC for over nine years without any trouble. I have the unit serviced at the beginning of every season and I keep it clean and debris free. I am purchasing a new home and I need to replace the existing Carrier which is not working. I have had such good success with Goodman that I decided not to even shop around. I am in the process of hiring an A/C contractor currently.
