Mark sounds like you were had which unfortunately, happens all too often. Most people do not know that among the tops...Carrier, Trane, Lennox etc., it really matters on who installs them. There are a number of reasons that you can have a bad compressor due to improper installation and it sounds like you got hit by it. By the way, Carriers do in fact have Copeland Scroll compressors, not made in china, take a look for yourself, I've been to the manufacturing plant. All you need to know is you probably know nothing about hvac, like most, and the best thing you can do is research the installer.

"Love my Carrier Infinity AC"
My contractor installed 2 new Carrier Infinity ac and heat systems in my home approximately 3 years ago. I have never had a single issues with them and I leave in the Houston area. We use or ac's virtually year round so they work very hard. I really like the infinity thermostat. It operates to control humidity and the temperature. The only complaint is from my wife because she complains that it is sometimes too cold! That is a problem that I personally love! By the way our contractor told us that most complaints about trouble with a ac system is due to poor installation. I can definitely highly recommend Carrier and we loved our contractor, Mabry's Air Conditioning.

"Great old unit"
My 4 ton Carrier (bdpp) heat pump has preformed flawlessly for 21 years. I had to replace a capacitor, but that is all. I now am having leaks and am looking at replacement units. Even on 109 degree days here in Houston area this unit would cool the house down and cycle. It makes a big difference if the unit is sized correctly and installed properly. I had an engineer size my unit, but I installed it myself. I see a lot of units fail due to poor install. Is your service man using a vacuum pump when they install??? There are a lot of people taking short cuts that cost you. I am looking at another Carrier but worry that nothing is as good as it used to be.

Carrier Cooling and Heating Unit, Have serviced every year , replaced one compressor after 10 years. Still working and in good shape. Will replace with another Carrier when it goes.

My Carrier Tech 2000 installed in June of 1990 failed August of 2011. The outdoor compressor amazingly was still working but I sprung a leak with with the indoor coil and it was impossible to repair. Instead of spending $1500 on a new indoor coil with expensive old r22 refrigerant I decided it was best not to put money into 21 year old equipment. I have a brand new 16 seer Carrier Performance series a/c installed along with a new indoor coil and a brand new Carrier Infinity ics gas furnace which replaced a 21 year old Oneida Royal oil furnace. Installation of everything ran about $7,200 but so far so good. I looked at Trane and Carrier equipment but with my old Carrier a/c lasting 21 years that was reason enough to choose Carrier equipment.

Have a 21 seer Infinity 48000 btu and it has been problem free with great savings, I can't even hear the condenser from inside the house. Great product and highly recommend Carrier AC.

I have noticed that everyone has blamed the carrier ac/furnice for all the problems. Its not the ac its the installer and sears. The person that had to change out floors, check the drain-off. It shouldnt be coming into your house so check the drain. The person who changes freon, check your coil or the tubing. The person that bought the ac with the dent. Thats not carriers fault thats sears fault bc they cant handle their products too well, they just dont care. As for the noise its 3t of cooling power how quiet can u expect it to be?

I enjoyed that the technician from Aire One was very thorough on instructions how to use the unit. The Install Technician answered all my questions about using my Carrier model A/C unit. I'm happy about the service overall. Even after installation, I get follow-up to ensure I am 100% satisfied, and also they assist me right away when I call. "Keeping Cool With Our Air Conditioner"
We've had our current air conditioner for at least 8 years and it does a great job when the heat is on. Our summer time temperatures have been peaking between 100-105 degrees, usually from August through October, and our air conditioner does a great job at cooling down our entire house. I only wish we had one for the upstairs, as this one turns our downstairs into a refrigerator...it gets so cold but we have to do this to adequately cool our upstairs. It's also quite loud when it turns on, even though it's outside, and our electric bill goes up quite a bit if we use it all day and into the night, especially during our hottest months, but, overall, it's a great air conditioner. We haven't had to replace the coolant yet. I would definitely buy this brand of air conditioner again and recommend it to a friend.

"Great Air conditioning Unit"
I have owned this air conditioner unit for over a year now and so far, so good. I haven't had any problems with the unit at all. That is actually what I like the most about it. You can rely on it. The guys who came to installed it were very friendly and did not waste any time to get the unit ready to go. Just simple maintenance will keep your unit working and your house in a good temperature. What I don't like too much about it is the noise, mainly because it's installed near our room but it's not a big deal. So far, no repairs have been done to the unit and I don't foresee any repairs on in the near future . I would personally recommend this unit to anybody if you are looking for a reliable and low cost Central air conditioning unit. The quality is superb and the customer service with Carrier is just great.
